Default b16a or b18c

i hate making decisions... i don't know whether to swap a b16a or b18c in my del sol right now.. i have the s model so it's like 106 HP and 106 trq. what do you guys think i should do? b16a is a lot cheaper, but not as powerful. i'd rather get that because of the money. but the b18c is a lot more, but more power ful. i dont' wanna swap in an engine that already comes with a del sol in the other model, i wanna get somethig different. if i got the b16a, i could get i/h/e and **** for about the price of the b18c. i like the price of the b16a but i like the GSR better. ...

How do you ask a question and answer the question in the same post? You said it yourself, the B18C is the better engine. I'm assuming that you are speaking of the jdm gsr engine, because the B18C-R would be no question at all. You buy a b16a with bolt-ons, you still won't have the low-end torque and that beautiful mid-range given by the b18c. All you will have is an engine that you can rev the **** out of.

You can build a b16a to outperform that b18c but you'll be spending more money.
This topic is a basic repost, because so many have asked the question of b16a/b vs b18c. My advice is to go with b18c. This thread is going to turn into a thread talking about boosting that b16a, building that b16a. I can feal it coming. Guys are gonna start posting without even reading the other posts and screwing up this thread.

Do us all a favor and hit search at the top right hand corner and find you info yourself. Once you see it you'll know why I said this is a repost.

And for all of you guys that don't like to read before you post, read please. He said "B18C-GSR stock or B16A with I/H/E"
No building and no boosting. It doesn't matter if he is auto x, road racing, drag racing, etc. He asked a simple question. Do turn this into another b16 vs b18 thread.

thank you!..i've driven B16A swapped cars with quite a few bolt-ons and they aren't as FUN to drive as a stock C1 swapped car.even if you do enough mods that the B16 car is,in fact, faster;it's still not as much fun to drive.nothing you can do(other than increase displacement, but that kinda defeats the purpose)to a 1.6L motor to get that low-end grunt that the 1.8L+ motors have.i've even swapped totally stock B18A/B motors into heavier cars(coupes and high trim-level cars) and they feel just as fast(although they definately aren't as fast)to drive than a B16 in a lighter car......
but, anyways, not trying to start yet ANOTHER thread on this...do some searching and you should find all the info you need.

I've posted this literally 100 times now because of the same tired-*** question, but here goes:

I've owned an i/h/e B18C1 swap in a 1992 Si hatch at the same time my fiancee' owned an i/h/e and rechipped ECU B16A2 in her 1992 Si hatchback.

Both cars had the same header and exhaust, and the B16A had a cold air AEM while the B18C1 had the short ram.

We took them to the dyno on the same day and got:

B16A2: 143whp, 102ft-lbs. of torque
B18C1: 150whp, 122ft-lbs. of torque

And that's just peak numbers. The B18C1 made shitloads more power under the entire curve. The power down low and in the midrange killed the B16A.

The B18C1 hatch outpulled the B16A2 hatch EVERY time we ran them. Did not matter what mph, rpm, gear, etc. - the B18C1 would pull on the B16A with no problems.

I'd spend the extra money if you can truly afford it on the B18C1 over the B16A.

Or you could always buy the B16A for now if that's better in your budget and add a GS-R or LS block and already have the better B16A tranny (closer gearing than GS-R tranny) for a nice "poor man's ITR" set-up.
