Alarm install question for a '94 GSR 4 door
Hey guys, I have a '94 GSR 4 door.
It already has an alarm in it from the previous owner. It's an old school derringer alarm. I'm going to replace it because it doesn't seem that reliable. My main purpose for the new alarm actually is so that I can have remote doorlocks! (yes, I am that lazy!)
Anyhow, I have a couple of questions.
1. Is the door pinswitch a "negative" or "positive" switch? (or how can I test to see what it is?)
2. For the power door locks. Is the GSR a "negative trigger" or a "positive trigger"? Once again, how can I figure this out?
3. Is our domelight a "positive" or "negative" trigger?
Thanks!

The answer to all 3 questions is negative. It's also a good idea to verify all connections with a digital multi-meter.
The door trigger will show 12v+ when the door is closed and ground when open. This should be a light green wire with a red stripe. Door lock should be black with a white stripe and unlock should be black with a red stripe. You should be able to trace these wires from the old alarm wiring.
For domelight supervision, you usually tap into the wire you use for the door trigger but in most cases this will require a relay (if the alarm doesn't have one built in). In addition, most alarms can interface directly into the door lock wiring without a relay.
What alarm(s) are you considering?

Hi,
Thanks for the quick response! Yeah, i thought it was a neg trigger. Just wanted to be sure. I haven't messed with cars for years now. (use to have a '91 integra...(yes, i'm old!) )
I actually already bought the alarm. A Crimestopper CS-2001FC SeriesII alarm. I didn't need anything fancy. Just wanted flashing lights and doorlocks! hahaha
Yeah, I was planning on tracing the old alarm setup. But wanted to clearify a couple of things before I attempt to blow up my car.
Thanks!
PS: does anyone know how to program an AWACs window module? (it just goes closes the window) Is there a way to program the "time" on it so that it doesn't keep pushing up and burn out my window motor? Thanks!

If I remember correctly, the AWACS module works just like most window modules. Once a certain resistance is reached, the module will turn off. Do you hear the window motor running when the windows go up (after arming the alarm).
