DIY clutch changing
my friend blew his clutch in his 99 Si... anyone know where i can find some DIY write up online... were some newbies so this is going to be our first time... is it possible to do it with some home tools as in jacks, stands, no power tools or do i need a lift and power tools... thanks
hard to make a whole write up without pics....
but you can deffinately do with simple hand tools and jack stands
I never use a jack for the tranny, just lift up from ebove the car with hands.
You will need a 12 pt 10mm socket if you don't have, accurate torque wrench, and I highly suggest to resurface the flywheel...cost about 30 bucks and will insure a long lasting job with smooth engagement. To pull the flywheel, you'll need a 12 pt 17mm.
A simple Chilton's manual will be good enough for a clutch job. Adjust the clutch pedal and bleed the lines after install also for best feel
oh, and I usually use the front wheels/tires to support the engine under the oil pan after removing both mounts on tranny

just to add to that... i find a rubber mallet helps a lot when undoing the flywheel bolts. use the box end of a combination wrench and give it a good whack, that always helps stubborn bolts for me.
