Default cams! cams! cams!

I already did a quick search and most of the info I found was cams on sale.

I'm currently building up my motor and need some quick opinions/advice. I have a 96 hatch and plan on going ls/vtec with it. I already purchased the head its a 00 b16a2 with no cams and a itr valve train. Now my question is what sort of cams should I be in the market for? I've narrowed it down to getting either ctr or itr cams or possibly having one ctr intake cam and a itr exhaust cam. What's your guys' opinion on this? I dont plan on boosting the car, but want it to be a sleeper/daily driver.

00 and 01 ITR Cams are, I believe, the same as CTR Cams. So, if you went to the Acura dealer and bought cams from a 2001 ITR, I think you will get the same thing as a CTR cam. Honestly though, if you are planning to build this motor and spending some money...why not buy some bigger/better cams?

What's the bottom end consist of? Are you changing the pistons, raising the compression?

I have a 94+ stock LS bottom waiting for me to pick up. I do plan on working on the internals of the bottom as well but want to do one thing at a time. I maybe asking questions about that in the near future.

I'm keeping all options open. What did you have in mind though?

The reason I ask, if you're going to keep the bottom end stock, with stock compression, you don't want to move to a bigger cam like Skunk stage 2's or Toda B's, because they need compression to perform well. The CTR/ITR cams would be better suited for a low compression set up.

On the other hand, if you do plan to change out the pistons, and raise compression, a bigger set of cams would be a good idea for making some more power.

Thanks man, at first I didnt plan on changing anything on the block and still feel that way now thats why I kinda narrowed it down to ctr or itr cams.

If you keep it stock on the lower half, be sure to cut valve reliefs in the pistons, as even with CTR cams, you can risk piston to valve contact.

One thing about keeping the stock block (meaing stock pistons) is that the compression ratio is gonna be pretty lame. Roughly 9.5:1 is a pretty weak compression ratio. I would honestly consider, at the least, some ITR pistons (either USDM or JDM, but JDM gives more compression - 10.8:1 compared to 11.3:1).

If you are going to do the motor, do it right the first time. It is time consuming and a waste of money/effort to continually pull the motor out and take it apart and put it back together. There are parts wasted in that process that you have to repurchase everytime. Save yourself the headache and build the motor right the first time and then enjoy it for years and years

alright im gonna keep that in mind. My neighbor has a friend that works at the dealership around here and he said he can give me a good deal on some OEM parts. If not, h-t classifieds here I come! Thanks for the tip about building the motor. I plan on building it on the side, taking my time and not half a--in it. Ill try and post pics when I have a chance.
