Default t3 super 60 questions..

what are the a/r ratios of the t3 super 60? are they both .60?

is this turbo too small for use on a GSR engine? boost would probably be from 4 to 8 psi or so, depending on the wastegate. at these boost levels on a non-intercooled application, will power fall off at high revs?

what is the optimum efficiency range of this turbo? i'm looking to use it mainly for autocross and road courses.

any help is appreciated, TIA.

i think a true t3 super 60 is a 60 a/r and a 60 trim... but you may be fooled by people claiming their 60 trim 48 a/r is a super 60 (which it isnt). from what ive researched, the street driven low boostin cars would work well with a t3 of either caliber...

The "super 60" is only 1 part of the turbo (the compressor wheel).

The compressor housing for the super 60 wheel is usually .60 a/r.
The turbine housing for the super 60 is usually .48 or .63 a/r.
The turbine wheel can be anything from Stage 1 to Stage 3.

The turbos below are both "Super 60" turbos, but yield dramatically different results.

Turbo 1:
.48 a/r turbine housing
Stage 1 turbine
.42 a/r compressor housing
Super 60 trim compressor wheel

Turbo 2:
.63 a/r turbine housing
Stage 3 turbine
.60 a/r compressor housing
Super 60 trim compressor wheel

This is exactly why you need to know all of the specs when you buy a turbo. It isn't enough to be told that a turbo is a "super 60".

a quick way to tell if it's a super 60 is the inlet of the compressor won't have a step in it if it's a garret or nissan housing. and the inducer (? inlet blades) will be over 2"

as i understand it, the second turbo you listed would be more efficient at higher boost/flowrates. is this correct?

i see a lot of t3's on ebay off of 80's domestic cars, with a/r's of .60 and .48 (i can't remember which is compressor and which is turbine). they are the integrally wastegated t3's that, if you were to simply bolt it up to a honda t3 manifold, would have the downpipe pointed up. would one of these turbo's have the efficiency range i am looking for?

thanks for the input

so which of the two would be better for a B16 boosting at 7psi?

Wide Open Throttle,

i don't mean to hijack your thread. i like to know also which one of the 2 turbos Sonny posted would be better for a b16.

thanks.

Turbo #2 is the better "performance" turbo. Turbo #1 will spool fast and hit hard early on, but up top, it will get owned by Turbo #2.

You won't find #2 in any production vehicle. In fact, the Super 60 Trim wheel was not put into any production cars. It's a special Garrett wheel that you can only get when you buy a new turbo.

The junkyard turbo that is readily available is a hybrid of the above 2:

.63 a/r turbine housing
Stage 1 turbine
.60 a/r compressor housing
60 trim compressor wheel

The 60 trim and Super 60 trim are very close in performance. The 60 trim flow 34 lb/min. The Super 60 flows 36 lb/min. The turbo I just listed is the factory turbo for the Ford Thunderbird Turbocoupe. The Turbocoupe is a pretty common car in the junkyard. It came with 2 different turbos through the years. One is the Garrett that I just listed and the other is an IHI. Make sure you get the Garrett!

The 'Super 60' is a Turbonetics exclusive wheel. http://www.turboneticsinc.com/t3.html
"Available in any combination of compressor trim (including the exclusive TURBONETICS SUPER 60) and turbine section in standard, Stage II or Stage III turbine wheel trim"

this turbo seems similar to the one you mentioned, except for the .48 exhaust a/r. would this turbo flow enough air at high rpms?

I am going to be using one of those turbos on my Z6. I have never used one myself, but I have heard they pull pretty hard at higher rpms. There is a post about those specific turbos somewhere on here and I guess they are T3 60 trim not super 60.
