which turbo is better.. T3 super 60 vs. T3/T04b
Running a jdm D15b vtec engine @ 10psi..
Which turbo will be better for me and why..
Garrett T3 super 60 w/ 60 trim wheel, 60 ar compressor housing and 48 ar turbine or
Airesearch T3/T04b w/ 54 trim wheel, 60 ar compressor housing and 48 ar turbine.
super 60 is $300, while the T3/T04b is $370

Why? Anyone who has these turbos please provide input. Is the T04b a lot slower to spool? What are spool time for your setup?

I bought the 60 trim T3.. Right now im running a T3 .42 / .48 and it lets off a lil bit over 6500rpm. I'll let everyone know how it works out..
I got the turbo from 'down2turbo' on ebay.. He sells a bunch of them every week. Heres the turbo i bought. Check his other auctions for the t3/t04b and others..

60 trim isn't a super 60...
but anyways... get the super 60, the t04b compressor sucks for high boost / small displacement applications. If you really want to go t04 compressor get a t04e.

Really? I always thought the "T3 super 60" was a 60 trim .60ar T3 turbo with a .48ar turbine...
Am I way off??

Not way off. I think it is only slightly bigger. here are the compressor maps to see how it is only slightly better Mind you it might be hard to find one and they are notibly more expensive. I would just stick with a T3 60 or a smaller T3/T40e for better performance.

Re: (adseguy)
^^ Great link...I learned a lot from that site.
So, it looks like the "super 60" is has a slightly larger compressor ar than the 60 trim?..
I noticed the super 60 is quite a bit more expensive than the 60 trim, why is this?
What makes the super 60 better than the 60 trim?

Re: (Slammd Sol)
do a serach on compressor maps. There is a ton of stuff out there. Here is a post i started at team-integra.net. Search "compressor maps" and there is a post that tells you how to plot points on those maps to see which turbo is best fit for your application. Also I just bought Corkey Bell's book "Maximum Boost" and that helps out a lot on not only what turbo to use, but also types of intercoolers. Maintenance, problems you may encounter...etc. I highly recommend it! Knowledge is always the key to power and for $30 at amazon.com it's WELL worth it. Don't rely too much on the compressor map because there are other factors too. For instance wouldn't it be the best to attach a T25 turbine side so you get the quickest lightest spool and a big T4 compressor side to suck as much air as possible? The answer is no. I don't remember exactly why but the problem lies in the speed difference at the tip of the compressor vs. the tip of the turbine fan. Many other factors such as trim size a/r and other stuff. My only suggestion is read. Don't listen to anyone say "ohh this one is the best for you." Everyone's power requirments are different. If I were to give a range I would say no smaller then a T3 60 trim and a T3/T04e 60 trim .63 a/r hot and cold as the biggest.

yeah super 60 is a bit bigger compressor then a regular 60.
also a lot of the "super 60's" on ebay are just regular 60 trims so watch for being scammed.
I have a spreadsheet which does all my injector, compressor mapping, outlet temp calcs and everything, but i just reinstalled windoze and right now i don't have excell otherwise i'd punch that stuff up for ya.
i've heard of super 60's making as much as 300 whp but its really streching it, at that point i'd go to a t04e 50 trim or so compressor.
i know a guy who just layed down 425 whp on a log manifold and a .82 turbine, stg3 wheel, t04e 57 trim. (vw 1.8t) so 57 trim is a little bit large for 300 whp.

Re: (pete98m3)
in your case / budget the super 60. The main advantage of the t04b, imho for you, would be that you can tell people you have a t3/t4 and avoid having to explain what you have.

w00t! Got the turbo today in the mail! Ended up going with the Garrett T3 60 trim wheel, 60 ar compressor housing and 48 ar turbine. I can already tell its much larger then my old 42 trim T3. Cant wait to get it installed.
Yes i know, I have an SSAC manifold. But dont worry I already have a full brace setup fabbed up so that the turbo/wastegate (Tial 38mm) will be 100% supported with No weight on the manifold.

Congrats!! That turbo looks nice!!
Didn't you just order that thing a few days ago?
That thing looks sooo much bigger than my little T25...I think I'm gonna buy one...looks like it'll be more fun than my T25
How much did you get it for? $350?
