Default Type-R hybrid or GSR Hybrid??

I currently have a 92 hatch with a 94 JDM GSR motor in it. I currently have the opportunity to trade in my current swap, plus $2300 CDN (equivalent to $1400 USD) for a type-R swap. This includes the R tranny and ECU. Do you think i should go for this or should i spend the money building the current motor? Any info would be great!

BTW, the motor is not hot, just so happens that the shop is looking for a GSR motor...REALLY BAD!!!

They are both great engines. you have to ask yourself if 20 more HP is worth $1,400. The LSD in the Type R trans sweetns the deal considerably. If the price you quoted includes the work to swap the motors then I'd say go for it.

92sleepR is right, if the labor comes with that price, then by all means jump on it.

Labour is included in the price. All i need is to drop the car off and pick it up a week later.........

I would say take the $1400 and send the GSR head over to portflow and have the head port and polished and have all the goodies put in it.

Go for it...sounds like a good deal. It would take more than $1400 to get your gsr motor/tranny to perform as well as a stock type r setup. remember that the type r motor is obd2 so you would want to keep your gsr distributor and you'll have to get an obd1 ecu.

I think i am getting the type R ECU and the distributor......would this be bad?? Actually, i can get a JDU type-R ECU, which from what i heard is OBD1 in exchange for my USDM OBD2 P73 ECU.....should i do this? Would this make my install easier?

You'd need to get a jumper in order for you to run the ITR ecu in your car. Although they are set up with OBD 1 programs, the plugs are still made for an OBD 2 car. You could always retain your stock GSR computer and get it reprogrammed or find a cheap P28 somewhere. There are a bunch of options.

i was thinking like evo on how you should drop off your head at portflow and get that built. But for $1400 including labor for a type r motor you can beat that. Just make sure everything is legit. You don't want to be stuck w/ a type r motor w/ a b16 head.

Depends on the milage of the Type R compared to the milage on your GSR.

I traded my GSR swap with 70k+ miles for jdm Type R swap with only 10kmiles. So the extra $$ it costed was worth it since i got a lot lower milage motor.

I would say go with the ITR motor. If you stick with the ITR motor you wil never say "what if I kept the GSR motor?"' But if you don't get it the thought will always be in the back of your head "what if I went with the ITR motor?"

Stick with the gsr and buy some type r components, and other aftermarket parts, and an lsd, it will run just as well.

If going with GSR you won't get the better valvetrain, the better forged connecting rods, and overall better quality parts compared to the GSR.

i would say that you should get the itr definitly. just make sure everything checks out okay like the compression and all. dont want to be stuck with a motor that has no compression on two cylinders or something

i'd say stick w/ the gsr, build up your motor cams, ect... you have a good motor and for 20 hp. is it worth it think about that for a min... its up to you but if anything i would def. say get a lsd you wont be sorry on that part...
