Extended Warranty?
I'm surprised this topic hasnt come up before (i searched
), but my car is nearing the end of its warrenty and I'm wondering if I should buy the extended warrenty. The rep told me it would be 1000 for basically 3 more years and 45k more miles. I'm pretty sure you can talk them down just like the price of a vehicle, but what is a fair price (Len?)?
I havent done any real mods to the car other than J's and wheels and plan to do the usual bolt ons and maybe more extensive internal work in the next few years, but I really dont want to pay for little stuff that craps out. Lemme know what you think.

I got it for 800.oo when I bought my caR from the dealer... If you have the cash, and are aware of things that might need replacing due to manufacture faults that add up to or over 1000.oo then it is worth it.
But use your head and think, don't scam.

$1000 is cheap. I got mine for just over that after emailing 10+ acura dealers. My dealer wanted $1800. Make sure this is a Acura warantee though, and not some third party BS.
If you're going to modify your car, then its not worth the money as internals will def void it, and some externals may.
Mine has paid for itself and I still have 40,000 miles left on it.
They wouldnt cover my headlights though which pisses the sh*t out of me. Both have water in them now, and they say its not covered. It will cost $1,200 if I want to pay to have them fixed, or $600 if I want to do it myself.

I had a similar situation happen with my civic. Moisture got into the headlight. It was still under warranty. They replaced it, no questions asked. You might want to look through the warranty book or call Honda/Acura care at 800-999-5901

Not true. Mods do not void the warranty at all. However, a warranty is there to enable you to get problems fixed without paying for the fixes. The warranty contains an exclusion that fixing any problem that is caused by aftermarket parts is not covered.
What that means is that if you have a bumper-to-bumper warranty, and you change the engine internals, and there is a problem with something unrelated - for example, the stock stereo - it will be covered. What it also means is that a repair of an engine problem (or even a transmission problem) can be blamed on the mods - and that you also run the risk of getting into a p*ssing contest over whether a problem is, or is not, caused by the mods.

bolt on external parts cannot void your warranty. kind of like getting your oil changed at jiffy lube cannot void your warranty. The dealership has to prove the part caused the failure, and usually if you beat them down you will win, especially armed with the above info. anyway, if you will mod, use the money on mods, not the warranty. acura/honda's have an extremely high reliability rating, especially if you keep up on service.

I disagree with this part. The dealership doesn't have to "prove" it, they only have to claim it. However, if it's an Acura warranty, you can appeal to the regional or zone service manager (who works for Acura HQ, not for the dealership) and you can also appeal to customer service at Acura HQ. You won't necessarily win just by appealing it; it depends on the specifics of your case. But of course you have nothing to lose by making those appeals.
(This is the same process as with any other warranty claim, even one that has nothing to do with aftermarket parts, such as a problem that they claim is caused by driver abuse.)
