Engine Shaking when getting on or off throttle. Any thoughts?
When getiing on or off throttle suddenly the car shakes like the engine is moving. That said I am not convinced that is exactly what is happening. I have checked all motor mounts and found the rear one to be cracked. I replaced it but the problem is just as noticable as before.
I have searched to see what other people might have experienced but nothing useful came up. I recall reading that this sort of backlash could be caused by weak springs in the clutch disc. I have an ACT HDSS clutch and it only has 12,000 miles on it so that seems a bit odd but I am short on other explanations.
Another side note that makes me think it is likely not the mounts is the fcat that there is absolutely no movement in the sifter itself and there are no clunking noises.
My best guesses to date are
Motor Mounts broken
Clutch Disc Springs weak
Axels worn out
Anyone have this problem?

No not really. All the shaking is in the seat itself. It really shifts the whole car. It is very distinct but still difficult to describe.
YOu really feel the whole car move. Nothing in the shifter or steering wheel.

how bout never getting off the throttle?

sure you don't have a wheel loose..check them lugs.
Otherwise may be axles. What if you at a constant speed, any shake? If not then once you accelerate from a constant speed does it show up again. if so, then it may be a bad inner axle joint.
Louie~ who will need a right axle soon.
btw~ anyone know if the inner axle end and tri-pod can be purchased separate?

if you started having this problem after clutch installment, it must be clutch/tranny related. my guess something was left loose......12000 miles, axles should be good.
No clunk or clank. No noise at all really.
The car has 64,000 miles
The Clutch has 12,000 miles.
This started about 1000 miles ago.

Give your car to me and I will find out for you.
But really, sounds like the clutch since that is really the only variable that has changed. It really sounds like the mounts but it looks like you have ruled that out. Maybe we can look it over on Friday.
Hope its nothing major.

If you sit still and just rev the engine is it present? or do you have to be moving?
An engine mount would probably be the most noticable while sitting still. If it's only happening while moving I would look at suspension bolts, bushings and wheel bearings.

It is only present while moving. I will look at suspension tomorrow. I can't imagine why suspension would have come loose like that.
Someone I was discussing the issue with best described the feeling when the engine shifts as a "flop". It flops backwards when getting on throttle. AT the same time if you ease into and off of throttle the movement is mild to non appearent.

my suspension is making a little noise. I had a little shaking but it was my cv boot going on me. I got it fixed and it went away for me.
Oh, I also heard that if you move the Expo back to the EAST the problem would go away as well

No noises at all. Lug nuts are tight.
I have already inspected axels and don't think that is it but can't say for sure.
Suspension loose and clutch are my top 2 guesses. I would think suspenions loose woudl get worse with time
this is constant

Check the inner CV joints. Several years ago my CRX did the same thing and replacing one of the axles fixed it. The car used to shake quite a bit coming on the throttle especially. It seems you can eliminate lug nuts and the engine mounts.
Does it still have the performance it always had or does it feel alittle slugish? Is it wet out side? Do it at idle or off idle?
If it is slugish, try to pull 1 plug wire out at a time. May be a bad plug or wires or a dead cylinder. Have you ever replace dist. rotor & cap? Just a couple of ideas.

not sluggish, Air Fuel is perfect, Hondata datalogs are good. Does not do this at idle only while moving. Has new 15k miles dist cap and rotor, pug wires and plugs
Did you adjust your valves at 60k miles?
Ck tires, off balance or broken belt in rear if you fill it in your seat.
What RPM's? MPH?

Valves not adjusted.
Tires are balanced and no belts are broken.
Not sure of RPM and MPH since it happens at many different speeds. It is 100% throttle affected. It isn't hsaking from an engine issue and I am pretty sure it isn't motor mounts.

Mine is also doing the same as "It flops backwards when getting on throttle. AT the same time if you ease into and off of throttle the movement is mild to non appearent."
I would have to say that the motor/ tranny mounts are done, check them asap- I will be checking mine as soon as I have money to fix what I find

Checked, one replaced, still does it...

Pull the axles out and check the inner cv's for play - doesnt need much wear to give you a headache.

The shaking he is talking about is like slack in the drive line. Say for instance you have a string and you're pulling it at a constant rate, the string is tight the entire time. Then let off the gas, the string gets some slack in it, then back on the gas and the slack is taken out instantly, causing a surge/shake in the car.
I have the exact same problem and Trey and I have been trying to figure it out for quite some time now. I just need to get my *** motivated and spend some time under the car.
I notice it the most in traffic, on and off the gas. Getting on the gas, causes the car to take up that "slack" and the car tends to shake for a few seconds after getting on the gas.
