Default BIG BRAKE CONVERSION ON THE CHEAP

hi guys i have a honda CRX MKII 1989 shape. I am looking for a way to upgrade my brakes (discs and pads all round) without spending too much $$$. Is there any well known swaps for the CRX i.e. prelude, accord, civic type R etc that i can grap from the scrap heap and swap straight over with little modification
any help would be great, cheers

Is your car originally a b16 equiped? I ask because if so then the brakes will be like most other civic/integras. You'd be hard pressed to put any prelude or accord brakes on, but any civic or integra from 88-01 that has larger brakes than yours, will be an easy and worthwhile upgrade. Especially any type R's!! For the fronts you need the whole steering knuckle and hub assembly...keep your stock control arms. The rears will need the entire setup, trailing arm and all, except the toe adjustment linkage and control arms.

I have 91 Integra GS brakes on my 91 SI, and it's wonderful. Oh yeah, say good bye to any CR-X 14" wheels, as they will not clear the front calipers without modification. Good luck.

fastbrakes.com makes a nice kit to clear 15's using all OEM parts and a caliper bracket, for 14's upgrade to Si brakes and then just get good pads, discs, and fluid. I like stainless lines also.

if you get VT knuckles/hubs you can use VT calipers and discs (262mm vs your 242mm). these fit under 14" wheels no problems as the VT's originally came with 14's

if you want to go bigger still, after fitting the VT knuckles and hubs get MG ZS/Rover 623 282mm discs and associated calipers. these are the same size as prelude discs, but are a 4x100 patten and so don't need redrilling. these will fit under most 15" wheels

lots of info on this swap here http://194.154.162.19/phpBB2/v...rakes

first, ignore all those "prelude/integra" swaps... that's an expensive way to "upgrade" your brakes.

do this:
1. buy stickier tyres. You will see a HUGE improvement in braking distances.
2. buy better pads (carbotech, hawk, etc)
3. use higher boiling temp fluid (motul 600, valvoline, etc)
4. BLEED your system
5. replace any worn seals, calipers, dust boots, etc
6. install stainless steel lines
7. if you are really anxious in replacing stuff with other models, install a civic sedan EX master cylinder as well as the brake booster ('90-91 integra will work as well).

Prolly the cheepest and fastest way to stop is just don't drive. Stop real fast and don't cost a cent. (@ the most extreme level of course)

Iain, I am interested in your offer. Will they definitely fit the UK spec MKII D16a9 CRX?

Well, on my cr-x I put 3 14 inch black Integra steelies on all the wheels except the front left, which had a 91 cr-x 5 spoke blade (stock) and it tore the **** out of the wheel. I had to move the car (project car) and drove it down the street with it grinding all the way. When I got to my house I switched with one of the back wheels and it had a groove in it pretty bad. So that's why I said no, if it worked out for you some how....awesome. You're definately using the blade wheel?

my car is set up for autox and HPDE track days like this...

Carbotech Xps (pads) on the front... cheap *** autozone pads in the rear... super blue brake fluid... falken azenis.... she stops like there is no tomorrow! dont go with HP pads in the rear... at threshold with autozones you will be close to locking the rears up anyway.... and super brakes on a short wheelbase.... get ready to have fun!
