Default mods after installing an edelbrock turbo kit

When reading about the kit, I noticed that it will perform great on my stock d16y8 motor, but what if i wanted to do other modifications (i.e. skunk2 intake manifold, pistons (a1), camshafts, etc. What would I have to do to the turbo to make my car perform to its top potential...

I'm new to the turbo scene so is there a way to increase the psi without blowing the motor and with just pump gas....Thanks in advance

Not to mention the Edelbrock comes WITH a new intake manifold, making the purchase of a skunk2 manifold an unnecessary and near-useless expense.....

So, why are you at 96%? You could also check out turbod16.com. There is some nice info there as well.

EDelbrock turbo kit comes with an IM. A1 pistons = 12.6:1 = too high for F/I. D16Y8 = SOHC. You can still get any kind of parts you want to.

Have the block resleeved, forged rods, forged pistons, bigger turbo, cam, EMS, etc.

Yes there is, just turn the boost up. Get it resleeved and some rods and it won't blow unless you get stupid with it.

ah I see why you're at 96%.

because you are a schmuck.

And as far as raising psi without using more than pump gas I believe you must lower your compression.

Sorry I didn't search for "custom turbo," but i did search before posting this thread, and the only reason i'm at 95% is that someone got on my username and messed some things up. Probably a much better reason then why your at 96.

I'd say that most boosted motors that blow fail when the wristpins call it quits. Strong rods and a larger intercooler are a MUST when looking to increase boost. Fuel management is also important when higher boost is used, or else a lean mixture will result and then you can kiss your motor goodbye.

yep, the edelbrock kit is pretty complete already. as aquafina mentioned, you might want to turn your attention to the block, pistons/rods/sleeves... . upgrade the internals of your block, fortify it to take more boost...good luck

You can run about 10-11 psi on the stock Y8. Just add a boost controller, and there are two different tuning devices to tune the Edelbrock piggyback to adjust fuel and timing. Either a serial cable to a laptop, or a handheld controller, from Link Electrosystems.

From there....upgrade rod and pistons, turbo cam with springs and retainers, then run about 12-15 psi and hold on!
