Actually the Z6 has a better flowing head, but I would go with the Y8. OBDII to OBDII.

Y8

IM is the ITR of the D-Series
Head flows greatest of all D-Series , better than a z6?
Tranny has short gears and stronger steel forks
Compression is a little weak, but it the best D-Series motor tranny combo, IMO

I'm sure some others will argue for the precious D engine of their choice

also with a y8, less mileage, no obd conversions

y8 doesn't flow better than a z6 head. It does however have a higher compression ratio.

y8-higher compression, flows better, better intake manny
z6-bigger cam

comparing the heads (just by looking mind you, i could be wrong) when i had my z6 powered 91 si, the y8 looked like it had bigger ports

For street purposes, stick with the Z6 intake manifold. The Y8 intake manifold has shorter, fatter runners, which have been proven to provide better gains higher up in the power band. In theory it shares characteristics with a short air intake as compared to a longer, cold air intake. It is called the "Type R" IM for the D-series because, just like the Type R itself, you get the most out of it way on up in the power band (i.e. having to rev to and stay between 4,800 RPM to 7,000 RPM). But if this is going to be street oriented performance, stay with the Z6.

Why? You just stated that you will get the most out of the Y8 up in the power band, so why stay with the Z6?

Well because, for practicality's sake, I doubt for a street driven car you'll be spending most of your time that high up in the power band. Heck even on the interstate and I'm going 70 in 5th gear I'm only at about 2,900-3,200 RPM. So in order to get the most out of the Y8 IM (by being that high up in the power band), that means you'd need to be driving around in 3rd and/or 4th gear most of the time and be frequently going around 65 or higher around the city, and be going like 90-100 or so on the interstate. Just really wouldn't be practical, know what I mean?

I like my turbo D series. If you want any real power out of the D, you're going to have to either break it open and up the CR, or go FI on it. The B series motors have more potential, but let's not turn this into a D vs. B thread please.
