its a 94 ex. after i changed oil, there was this weird noise coming from the rear. kind of sounds like its from the muffler..but it only comes on after 2nd gear. this noise really gets to the ear like its deep and low. especially on the freeway, it gets real loud. when you sit in the back seat, you can hear it real good. i dont know what its coming from.
i thought its was the muffler/exhaust..but it isnt..because once you let off the pedal, the noise is still there..and when it shifts gear..it doesnt have that pause of a gear shift..it just constant at the same tone level. what else could it be?

another thing.. this car is auto.. when u let off the gas pedal...is the rpm suppose to be at idle (around 1k or whatever idle rpm is)..or is it like stick shift where it stays in gears til it slows down? the weird thing is when i let off the pedal, it would drop down about 1.5 k.. then it comes back up .5.
i drove my dad's toyota camry and when i let off the gas..the rpm needle just drops to idle rpm..it doesnt stay in the rpm til it goes down..
sorry if im not making sense..

Your cars auto because it adjusts the tranny gears for you.. so Your RPMS slowly decrease as you let off the gas because it is downshifting for you.
I would suggest you describe this noise better.. is it still their when you idle or when your is at a halt?
P.S - how is an engine supposed to immediatley go from about 5k to 1k in a split second of you not using the gas? Its not likely the crankshaft has brakes on it.. lol

the noise is only there when i drive.. when it idles its not there.
well thats in my dad's camry. while i drive..and if i let off the gas and let it roll...the rpm just goes all the way..i thought something was wrong with the car before..but it does it everytime..it feels like its in neutral..

Have you checked your exhaust tips to see if they're loose? When you jacked up the car to change the oil one of the tips could have hit something and loosened it up, happened to me recently. It sounded like a loud vibration coming from the rear end of the car.
are you sure the sound is in relation to what gear you're in? get the car up to ~25mph in 1st to see if the noise still comes up. if it does, it could be a wheel bearing, or possibly an alignment problem.

thanks.ill check both of those..you can actually start to hear it after around 25-30 mph..and then it just goes on.

yah, definetely check out the wheel bearing if the noise has a direct correlation with your speed. a bad wheel bearing will make a loud humming/vibration noise when it goes bad.
to check it: jack the rear up, place your hands on the top and bottom of the wheel and see if you can wiggle the wheel inwards/outwards. if there's any play, it's definetely the wheel bearing.
