hey guys i just did a valve adj on moms 92 accord ex.. when i started, it seems that the clearance were too tight.. so i redid all of them.. .010 intake ane .012 on exaust. now i could hear the rattle more than ever..
i redid it again, all inspecs.. any insight? is it because who ever did it before; left too little clearance and that is why it is worse now???
thanks a bundle.
i had this is accord forum.. no help.

Hmmmm... weird. The only thing I can think is to do it again, just to be sure, and this time when you slide the feeler gauge around, once you feel some drag (it must still be able to slide freely, but just with a little drag...) after you do that, test the gap once more, and take the gauge up to the next bigger size, which should NOT fit.
Another thing is, generally unless your valves are pretty off to begin with it shouldn't make much difference in the overall sound, so to me that says they are still off somewhere, but as far as whoever did it before messing it up, I don't know if that is a possibility or not... I hope you get it fixed, and good luck!!!

are you doing it with the engine cold(clearances change when hot)?also, after you tighten the jam nut,are you rechecking the clearance?it's easy to accidentally turn the adjuster when tightening the jam nut, changing the adjustment.

i had that problem too , but it was because im an idiot
it helped me by doing the "go-no go" trick....
pick ur desired thickness , tighten it to it , then slip the next ticker feeler in between , it shouldnt fit . hense the go and no go......worked for me

so u leave the desired guage inbetween and leave it there trying to add in the next size feeler right??
i just do it and then take it out and put the next guage in and it does not fit to make sure.. i redid it twice.

Bumped to the top since I have the same exact problem on my 96 ex civ.. i did it twice, checked the clearances and now it runs crappy and sounds horrible.
any suggestions?
