Default Oil Supply Line to Turbo

I found this pic of a 477 hp GSR Turbo on one of my old books. I never really payed it any attention but the oil feed line comes from the front of the head underneath the VTEC solenoid. Has anyone else on here set thiers up like that? It is clean as hell (not going all the way under or over the block to the oil pressure sender hole) What are your thoughts, suggestions, experiences, etc... I tried to search for something related to this but didn't really find anything. If you guys know of a link just post it on here. Thanks!

In reality it works well. They only time the oil is filtered is by using the GE turbo feed design. I think personally if you rev your motor to about 9 grand, there will be insufficient oil supply to the head. Yelding cam wear, etc.

Also, if this helps, that is a picture of Chris Rados motor, which was only used to being turned on maybe 10-15 minutes a month, so there are plenty of pro's and con's that factor in. Race motor vs street motor. etc

You will blow out your turbo in about a month if you tap your oil in that port. That port only has enough on VTEC mode only.

Is there another place right under the distributor with more oil pressure?

So, it would be a bad idea for a daily driver?

I wouldnt pull oil pressure for the turbo from there, theres enough for cams only. That is a port for testing piston to valve clearance for vtec. you pressurize that to activate it on an engine stand.

if its so bad why would they have done it on a drag motor?? why not run a longer line to have one less thing to worry about grenading on the track?

maybe they don't use vtec and therefore don't need that oil pressure?

anyone else notice that the stock GSR valve cover is just sloppily pasted into the pic?

There is also another place where you can tap for an oil feedline. If you look on the a back of a honda block by the oil pump you can fit a fitting that z10 sells. Personally I rather stick with the good old method of supplying oil the the turbo from the back of the black. There are only dissadvantages aside from a clean looking engine bay that I see in this discussion.

Tapping there for a turbo isnt smart. If you dont believe what these people have said, hook up an oil pressure gauge and see the pressure coming out of there... i promise you it will spike during vtec and not be enough to even register on the gauge when not in vtec.

I always wondered why people say this. All the oil in the motor is filtered. It is not like there is an unfiltered reserve that is used by only selected parts of the motor. It all ends up in the same place and recirculated through out the engine. Not flaming you just curious why people think this. Unless there is something I am unaware of.

haha, yea, that's what I was going to say. I have both of those books and I wondered the same thing, then saw them tap it from the back in the second edition.

Also, I don't know if the h22 is any different, but a buddy had his feed line tapped there on his h22 and it fried the brand new turbo.

I know i dont have VTEC in my setup but my oil feed line is near that very location. I have had my turbo on for over 3mos now and my turbo is still doing fine. That is the best place to tap into because there is less pressure there than at the stock oil pressure sending unit location (left of the oil filter).

That is what I was thinking, I mean yeah the oil pressure is only gonna be spiked with VTEC, but VTEC comes on at 5500 (PYR program) and The turbo will spool at around 3-4 K. Wouldn't the lower oil pressure be better for the turbo when it isn't being pushed? I know at idle the oil pressure is approx. 25 psi and then a WOT it is approx 75 psi from the back of the block, but what would it be at that port?
