I have an 88 hb with the follwing
1st gen b16 fully built ,pinned block, pistons , rods, valves ,springs, retainers, cams , camgears, skunk it manifold , aem fuel rail , 4 370 cc injectors , t3/to4e turbo , hks wastegate , ssq blowoff valve , s1 tranny , Kazz lsd
ok i changed my water pump cause it was leaking , the tensioner bolt stripped so I pulled the motor . the basic way unplugged the 3 connectors , mis hoses , axels , shift linkage . Repaired the striped bolts drop the motor back in reverse order . The car was runninng fine before i did this .I didnt want to try to start the enging right away cause it was sitting for 2 - 3 months so i wanted to prime the engine with oil . Disconnected the injector resistor so the engine wont flood , diconnected the coil . So the motor should spin & prime . I turn the key.... nothing . I checked all my connections & grounds there good . thry in start it ... nothing . so i check the starter connections good . Tap the starter ... nothing . By this time my battery is dead so I charged it . I buy a new starter put the new starter and charged battery in . Smoke starts comming out from the gauge cluster. How? I dont know cause I havent even touched anything . Tried again later on , the car is stuck in the on position or acc . the high beam light , oil light and arrows are on and you could signal without the key in the ignition the feul pump seems to be on . So I try cranking it to see if stuff goes away & nothing the starter gets the signal but it doesnt turn .
Sorry for the long write up but trying to give as much info possible so that I can get some info I am mechanically inclined so its not like I dont have a clue of what im doing . Thanks in adavnce

electrical problem? try checking out your ignition switch and making sure none of the solders have melted together.
How long was it sitting?
Id look for a mouse nest, near the source of the smoke...

I had the same problem with my car having smoke from the dash, and it turned out the underdash fuse box was fried and i needed a new one(happened after i push started the car). Check out your fuse box.

I checked the fuse box and all the fuses are ok what else should i check for ? Im really starting to think my car is possesed by the devil . I havent touched anything & im having these stupid problems .
So you checked the fuses and the ignition and nothing. I would say the next place to look for any type of electrical smoking/burning would be check out the Main relay.

In tried that thinking i burned out the relay and something melted inside giving it constant power so I switched it . Same thing . Even when I unplug the main realy everything is stuck in the acc position also the smoke was comming through the cluster housing .
seriously look for a mouse nest up in there, thats really wierd, and it ran fine before it sat?

are you now throwing codes? It sounds like to me you f'ed up some wiring while pulling the motor or putting it back in. Possibly you pinched some wires between a motor mount? The motor itself?
If you wanted to spend the $$ a shop could diagnose the electrical problem and then you could fix it.
Edit: maybe you jumped some teeth on your timing belt? Check timing.

I dont like taking my car to any shops out here in NY . To be honest I dont trust any of them. My shop is in Jersey and there backed up right now . So taking it to someone else is kinda out of the question . No codes . The ecu is getting power . I dont think it would be timming cause the motor hasnt cranked since I took it out . I'm going to check to see if any wire is pinched .

Ok Found the problem but I got more now . The car was shorted out . I touched the chassis by accident with the tester and it lighted up positive while the car was off ,so I unplugged everything and started connecting everything until the test light came back on .I had a original starter on the motor (jdm b16) I never changed it . So when i put the integra starter I forgot to straighten out the terminal (previously bent in a right angle) so the terminal made contact with the body of the starter ( ground ) so I guess I fried the starter . So that was 1 short . The chassis went back 2 neg. when the ignition was off . I turned the ignition on & I checked the solinoid wire and the siganl is getting there but I found that when the ign. is in the on position the motor is positive . I tested the grounds on the harness that grounds on the thermostat and its positive even when I disconnect it . I saw that my ecu's light is on steady . Does that mean I fried that too ? I disconected it any way . Today Im gonna start unplugging stuff 1 by 1 till I find the mouse nest !! Thanx for the held & keep the ideas comming
