Swaping in GSR 5th gear with ATS 4.9 FD
Can anybody tell me what parts I need to switch to the GSR 5th gear in my ITR tranny? The point here is to give me a decent cruise rpm on the highway with the 4.9 fd.
I have helped with a fd switch before, so I have some idea of the process, but is it still a do it yourself operation to go further into the gear clusters and switch 5th gear?

Now you see that's why I come to the experts with my questions..Learned something already! It's the LS not GSR 5th gear I need to get close to the cruise rpm I have now..
Thanks guys! I still want to know exactly what parts I need and complexity of installation.. I'm trying to plan and buy ahead...

Bah! Don't wuss out and plop in an LS 5th gear.
I just got back from an 880 mile roadtrip, a little over 25mpg.
85mph @ 5100rpms
Edit: w/ ATS 4.929

25mpg should be 30+ mpg but that just depends on if you care or not. I personaly feel that are motors are high strung but still not at ease when cruising at 5k+ rpm on the freeway.
Yea 5100 rpm is too high for me.. Not for long term highway driving anyway.. Life is hard enough on these motors anyway.. I can still touch 35mpg on a US gallon at 75 to 80 mph and I like that ( on regular gas too )

Hi Mark,
Good to hear you are finalling giving up on selling her and started to play with her some more
I'm done modifying my ITR, I'm just going to buy a new set of tires every year like I always do

Yea it's getting close to clutch time, and I really liked what the FD did for DDubs car.. I just don't want to rev like crazy on the highway all the time, hence the LS 5th gear. Sorry we never had much in the way of meets last year, I missed all you guys..

It's so nice to get usefull info from people who know... If I want to rev fast I can get into my Cortina with it's 4.30 diff and do my 100 mph at 6 grand.. Cosworth BDA's love to rev ( 10,000 on purpose and more by accident..). But the R is a familly and travelling car, and as such it has to stay practical..
Still no one has mentioned what parts I need for the LS gear swap or what's involved in swapping..
