Insurance and body shop ?'s
I hit a deer two months ago and my car is still being fixed. The insurance company gave me 3,000 to fix the car. The body shop said it might be more and supposedly called to get a suplement adjuster to come back out and look at the car, well evidently this has not happened so far. The body shop told me to go order the aftermarket parts for my car and that they would go to the speed shop to pay for them. Now for my question. If the insurance company originally wanted to total my car, then how is the body shop going to get anymore money for fixing my car? The total of aftermarket parts is about 1100. The body shop claims that all I need to pay when I pick up my car is my deductable. So then what happens to the rest of the money? I do not want my insurance company to drop me or to raise my rates. TIA
Do you have the car in your possession?
Do you have a check for $3,000, or is the insurance going to pay a body shop directly?
Is the insurance making you use one of THEIR shops, or do you get to choose one?

1. The car is at the body shop and is currently getting worked on
2. I have the Check for 3,000, and as far as the insurance company is concerned the claim is settled
3. The insurance wanted me to use THEIR shop, however I picked my own becasue I like them better. THe insurance agent came out already about 2 months ago and deemed the damage at 3,000 and cut me a check.

yup.they're probably gonna tell you that any parts needed should have been included in the original estimate they approved......only time i've seen insurance companies make exceptions is if the body shop finds more damage than originally thought(for instance a tweaked frame that will require more money to straighten),they will approve more money.

What price did the body shop the car is currently at originally quote you for the repairs. Does the check the insurance cut you cover that initial quote?
If they're going to try to change the price, get the car immediately and go elsewhere.
If the insurance gave you $3k, I'm sure you can easily find a shop that can repair it for that price.
Don't let the body shop dictate how you handle this situation, they're probably doing it in their best intrest - not yours!

1. The body shop never ever gave me an estimate. They told me that they were going to go by what the insurance company quoted and follow that and if it went over the insurance company would have to pay a supplement.
2. The check for 3grand is for me and the body shop (written to both) and will be theirs when all the work is completed.
3. I asked the body shop what they could do since the aftermarket parts were not quoted from the insurance company, and they said that I could get them and they would take care of whatever was left. So I ordered a replacement CF hood and CTR headlights, the shop even offered to go pay for them with a check at the speed shop.
4. I would never sign my car over to them no matter what they said. I have the title and spare keys, nomatter how they wanted to play, I would still get my car.
I asked the owner of the bodyshop (a police officer) what I owed him next week when I pick the car up and he said "$100, that is your deductible"
Therefore I am thinking whatever is over and above the amount that I give them they have to fight out with the insurance company
