i've got a bud who blew his motor using a 14b pushing 6-8lbs. How is it that the only thing that blew were his ringlands. every single one of his pistons the ringlands were busted. I was thinking he'd blow a headgasket, bend a rod, melt a piston. something of that nature. He was boosting on a sohc zc with an estimated 70k miles. Is there some sort of predisposition to weak ringlands or something? Maybe he'll post pics up later who knows

 

Detonation destroys ring lands no problem what was he using for engine management?

 

I have to agree. Sounds like detonation. Running lean tends to melt things (pistons). Detonation tends to crack things, and too much power on a stock bottom end like to snap rods.

 

450cc injectors, chipped ecu using ghettodyne, and walbro fuel pump. haha i think he was using 89 octane if thats a concern
