weird problem, engine smoking
jdm h22 93 accord, came to a stop, turned the car off, then it started jerking and trying to start with my foot off the clutch and the key out, after about a min of that it stopped and a whole bunch of smoke and burning rubber smell started coming out, i popped the hood unhooked the battery and as the smoke cleared it looked like it was coming from a part a couple inches to the left of where H22 is stamped on the block, there a a wire or two coming out of it, anyone know what it is and what may have caused all of this? i havent tried starting the car yet and dunno if i should
You can do it yourself pretty easily. Find a place that sells rebuilt alternators and starters, you should only have to pay $45 - $85 for one. I think at the dealership or parts store you can pay up to $300.
It should only take (2) 14mm bolts to remove the starter, you'll need to get the intake out of the way first.
I'd check and see if your wires aren't shorted out first, it could be just a short at the starter as well.
