Alpine MRD-M500 & Alpine SWR-1041D ------ Good combination of amp and sub?
Alpine MRD-M500
Alpine SWR-1041D
This will be mounted in a sealed box in the back of my teg. Im trying to figure out which is the better choice, the 2 or the 4 ohm sub.
Thanks

2 ohms

2 ohms
a dual 4 ohm sub can be wired to 8 ohms or 2 ohms
A dual 2 ohm sub can be wired to 4 ohms or 1 ohm
That amp is 250 watts at 4 ohms
Or 500 watts at 2 ohms

incorrect. The impedence of your subs is the impedence of the subs. i think you mean the amp can't handle a 2 ohm load which it actually can.

the lower the ohm load the more power but dosent mean better sound quality. The sub 1041d is built for 4 ohms if you drop it to 2 ohms the sound wont be as good it will hit harder but the life of you sub will be shorter and i think it will viod the warrinty The 2 and 4 ohm subs are good I like them alot. hope this was helpful

Completley ignore this post because it makes no sense and is wrong. The amp and the sub that you chose is a good combination but i would be tempted to go with the MRD-M300 simply because it's rated at 300W RMS @ 2ohms which is what the sub is rated at. I'm sure you could get away with the M500 but it depends on your listening style and the average listening volume.

Thanks
I decided to go with the SWR-1041D since it can be wired up in 2 ohm. I got the amp for cheap, and ill just turn the gain down so that it doesnt do any harm to the sub.

Instead of playing with teh gain i would turn down the sub channel on your deck if you have that option.

i'd have to say u r wrong...dual 4 ohm subwoofer CAN"T be wired to 4 ohms...its either 8 ohm or 2 ohm...i know plenty of people running alpine amps at 2ohms and do so just fine...if the guy buys the dual 2 ohm subwoofer then he will have to either run his system in 1 ohm or 4 ohms...the reason they make the subs in the different ohm loads is so you can achieve the ohm load that you need...he may be a backyard installer but i'd rather take my car to his back yard than to your "sponsored" place
Thanks again....
EBP_SI, is there a reason that its better to turn it down from the head unit? I always thought it was best to allow as much signal to travel to the amp as possible and have the amp do the adjustment.
supaman, I am going to be building my own box, is there a specific relationship between the depth to the width and or length? The sub needs 6 inches from the underside of the mounting ring. So with a 3/4 in sheet of MDF, that means the minimun depth I need is 5.25". I want to try to make the box fit behind my seats in the hatch and take up as little space as possible. Thus I want it to have a small footprint (bottom surface area) and be bigger in height. Will this type of design affect the sound or does it really not matter as long as the necessary volume is achieved?
