I got lucky! B16A to B18C5
I have a very low mileage B16A running in a 89 CRX SI. For some time i've been looking around for a larger bottom end to increase torque. I came accross an offer of a B18C short block with a burned piston and no oil pan for cheap!
Now that I picked up my new block and looked it over, i noticed its stamped "C5". Well, that sure made my day. I'm only wondering two things:
1) besides pistons, how is the type R bottom different from the gsr?
2)are there any parts I should use off the B16, and swap on the C5 block? My B16 has only 38,000kms original!

yes ,put your oil pump and water pump on it swap your pr3 pistons over to the c5 rods and your oilpan will fit . put your b16 head on it too and you got a perfect example of a poormans typeR. compression should be around 11.0 . i`m not real sure but it`s up there . workin on one myself , i bought ctr pistons and rings to go in mine but i have to sell them and go oversized . i found some scratches in my bores so i gotta bore it over now . wanna buy them? there brand spanking new .
Just to make sure i got this down, the only differences on the bottom end between B18C1 and B18C5 are:
-higher compresion pistions with some kind of factory coating
-stronger rods because of more dense metal
-heavier crank due to more counter weights
I've done a number of searches and this is all i could come up with, is that all? I know its out there, but i'm looking for detailed information.
Anyone know if oil or water pumps are higher flow?
Thanks for the help so far guys. Thats why I love H/T!!

I may be interested in the pistons, but they have to be a deal as i sell many aftermarket and jdm items for a living.

You can swap basically any part off the b16 to the c5.
