Default Valve spring question

I am having ITR cams installed in my GSR. The guy at the shop has a set of ITR intake springs he will sell me for $30 with 1000 miles on them. I figured they are good cheap insurance.

I have been searching around trying to decide what to do for good affordable exhaust springs to match. I have read that I can move my GSR intake springs to the exhaust side. I like that idea to save $$$. But is that safe? Are the GSR intakes the exact same as ITR exhaust springs? Same length, stiffness, tensil strength? Reliability is the key issue, next is cash flow, or rather lack there of.

I will retain the stock rev limit for awhile but may eventually raise it moderately. I want to set up the valve train now so that it is at least as reliable/durable as an ITR, since I am using ITR cams and would not raise the rev limit above that of an ITR. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, JFoster

Yes, the GSR intake is the exact same as the ITR exhaust. Move those bastards to the exhaust side.

30 bux for some ITR springs is well worth the insurance.

Thanks so much for the good news. Is there any way to prove this? Are the part#s the same? The main thing I am worried about is if intake springs are designed to take all the heat seen by the exhaust springs.

you should be fine regardless. The GSR exhuast springs are not a dual spring setup. Move the Intake springs (dual spring setup) over to the exhaust side and you'll be fine.

However if you do want to definatly check. Match the colors (which I sadly forget) to the ITR exhaust springs. I think they are like blue and yellow or something. But I'm pretty damn sure that the actual spring rates are 100% the same.

Well I found this site that sells oem acura parts.

http://www.acuraautomotivepart...cgry5=

Going here and comparing the valve train parts for an '00 ITR and "01 GSR the valve spring part #s 8896 and 8873 both come up for GSR and ITR. Thats a good sign .

You're right! They are the same thing. I sent an email to the parts department of Superior Acura in Overland Park KS asking them to please compare the part #s of an '00 ITR and '01 GSR and this was the reply:

James,

I did find out the same thing, the part #’s are the same. The price for the inner springs are $7.47 each & the outer springs are $8.55 each. If you have any more questions or would like to order

these, don’t hesitate to e-mail me or give me a call @ 913-652-1354.

Thanks.
