Valve Clapping
Whenever I start my car in the morning, to warm it up... Morning here are VERY cold, so when I start it up I hear a ticking, and its coming beneath the valve cover, which leads me to believe that its the valve itself. Could this result into a big problem? Is it something I need to get fixed? I changed my oil every 3000 miles, my engine is a stock d16z6, I drive a 94 Civic EX 2 door.

This is happening to me too, it last about 45-90 seconds each morning when my car is warming up. I had a valve adjustment done 8k miles ago. 99 d16y5 130k miles. Bump for a damn good question.

if its not the valves out of adjustment it might be the piston slapping against the cylinder walls. im a mechanic at an acura dealership in ontario canada and we have replaced a lot of short blocks in 1.6 EL's (canadian models only). they use the same engine as the EX's and have had a lot of these come through warranty

That does not sound good at all. And frankly it frightens me a bit. Is there anything that can be done.

the only thing that i would say to do would be to go to the nearest honda dealer and see what they say. let them listen to it, and they'll probably know if its the pistons or not. they do make quite a bit of difference in sound compared to the valves.
try running a lower vis oil. valve noise at start up is normal. Oil needs to get to operating temp before you should listen to valve noise. But what do I know, I'm only a aircraft mech.
