Default cold shift prob[tranny gurus]

95 jdm h22 in an accord with 340 000 kilometers on it ...

in the morning i shift into revers with no problem but once i stop and take it out of reverse it will not go into any gear what so ever ...i pump the clutch i get the car to roll i bring thre pedal up slowly and try to find the "spot" and nothing ...finally i get mad cuase im already late for work i slam it into gear and it goes in ....even driving when a little cold at intersections it doesnt want to go into 1st untill i slam it in ..

When i slam it in it grinds a bit and almost drives away with the clutch all the way in ....it definitly doesnt feel like its disengauging

could this be a sign of a weak clutch cylinder/slave cylinder ...again when it warms up it seems to work ok with the odd problem here and there ???

well, im not tranny guru but its could also be your synchros, if not then most likely your clutch since it does it in every gear and not just specific ones. hope that helps

This sounds like it needs a clutch adjustment or low on clutch fluid or needs to be bled out. clutch shop can usually blled the system and replace new fluid for around $35.00

How old is your clutch?

Have you checked the fluid level on the clutch master cyl?? Might want to change the fluid.

You say in only does this when it is cold? Or does it do this all the time.

I am thinking it is more of a clutch problem than a tranny problem.

Okay when did you change the tranny fluid?? If you running regular motor oil (as the manual tells you to...) you may want to try sychromesh...
I highly doubt it's the cables.. I have 210,000 miles on mine and no problems plus it wouldn't get better as it the car warmed up.

Don't slam it into gear. That only makes things worse. From your description of the problem, I'm guessing it's the synchros.

Have you tried double-clutching to get into gear?

Mine sometimes gets stuck in reverse when I start it in the morning, only once in a blue m,oon though. Once I back up a foot it gets out of reverse and into all gears fine. I wonder if its a related problem.

i believe joel bent a shift fork. he missed shifted and hit inbetween 2 and 4th (correct me if i am wrong)

EDIT: does ur clutch pedal give any resistance? Defaintly check the fluid, thats a no brainer...

I just remembered when I Had my clutch problem it was doing something similar to urs. Do u drop the clutch a lot? is ur clutch stock? I am betting on the clutch being bad. Check your fluids and if u can't find the problem take it to a clutch specialtist and try to get a lower price on the inspection.

If it doesn't go into gears easy, don't force it. If it's not ur syncros u do not want to damage them by forcing the gears..

the only thing that is puzling me and making me think it has to be soemthing differnt than you guys are saying is because he said it is fine once it warms up... Problems don't usually go away like that.
