Default What block?

I have a B16A right now, and I want to build up a block and my B16 head but I dunno what block to choose.

I could build up the B16 but I dunno many people who have done this, probably due to the lack of torque.

I was thinkin Ls, but I heard they are unreliable after pistons, cams, bore, etc.

I don't think I have the money to get any other block and then hook it up, cuz otherwise I would probably pick a B18C.

Any help?

go with an LS

if you do it CORRECTLY, it will be JUST AS RELIABLE as ANY engine of the same build parameters

Everything would be put together perfectly, just have to figure out the block. Pistons, balanced crank, reconditioned rods, micropolished journals,p&p, resurfacing, new bearings, seals, etc, would all be put in by a pro over here in vegas. (LDL speedshop)

Of course everyone has their own preference, but I hear so many people say B16, Ls, B18A,B,C, etc. Tuning is all preference, but It is hard to see a clear answer to what'll be the best choice of the millions of configs.

h22's have HUGE fuel consumption, and the FRM sleeves...junk

and b20's are weak as ehll and have siamese sleeves that WILL crack with higher compression or more than around 10 psi worht of boost

Go B20, have a friend that has a B20 with 11.5:1 comp with JE pistons, and a b16 head, this motor is in its third car and runs great, it also pulls like a ****.

liek i said, b20 sleeves are much weaker and not worth build upon. if you want a stockish street engine...get one...if you're building, don't waste your money on a b20 block, unless you buy a spare at the same time

So no one would recommend keeping the B16? I've now heard B20 and Ls's are not very reliable, and I do plan on having a daily driven civic with a hell of a lot of compression. I was thinking Ctr pistons, and want to get into 12s all motor.

I know torque is a major player here, but my car only weighs about 2k with the B16 in it, and the only weight redu is my rear seats. My stock B16 pulls hard, but If I put even more torque, I may not be able to hold it to the ground.

b16 = trash

the deck height limits what you can do with it...

just get an LS or a GSR/itr block with an LS crank.

don't do the b20 with high compression, and dithc the b16..cause it's just too damned small

if you really want to get built...click my sig...and give us a call

So basically, everyone likes different things, but what I am hearing a lot is that it would be better to build up a gsr or ls block.

I keep hearing an ls isn't as reliable as a gsr or a b16 so.............

Does everyone agree that a gsr block would be the best choice?

And if I do choose this block, where can I get a good one, for a reasonable price, that'll ship to vegas, or is located in vegas originally?

Probably the only reason they say ls's arent reliable is because the connecting rod bolts are crap. They snap after 7k and hard revving, but thats just because the motor is non-vtec and not designed to be taken as high as the other b-series engines. Replace those with some ARPs are you're golden to go 9k on stock rods

That is what I would suggest - LsVtec with your Pr3 pistons and ARP rod bolts.
I made a post called the cost of LsVtec which was pretty good. I can't find it just now though.

Sounds good. Now I just have to find a good priced block, or someone selling one around vegas for a good price.

So no one would really recommend the gsr over the ls?

Not that i wouldnt recommend it, its just that they arent that easy to find and arent as cost friendly as an ls block is. For the price of a nice legit gsr block you can get a b18a and resleeve it. My .02

That's true, but It wont be worth it down the long run? I mean, I am not tryin to buy my final block right now, but am I gonna wish I shoulda gotten a gsr instead of an ls, like I wish I woulda gotten somethin other than my B16A?

i dont see anyreason why you would regret it. Just build the motor right, take your time and save up for the right parts.
