limp mode but no CEL (yet)...
My B16A (HondadataS100, Toda B's, Valvetrain, CTR Pistons) has switched to limp mode. VTEC engagement point acts like a rev limiter and engine sounds different and lacks power. Idle is fine at the moment though.
The check engine light has yet to come on though.
The only irregularities of late that I can think of are:
This is an OBD1 car, but I know my carsound cat has crapped out, as it's been rattling non-stop for a week or so.
Also, Saturday morning the car started but idled rough and died. Started again idle rough, so I gave it a touch of gas so it wouldn't die, and then it evened out. I didn't notice any problems after that.
I didn't drive it on Sunday. Then Monday morning I noticed that the engine wasn't quite right.
Anyone have an idea where to start trouble shooting? I would appreciate any helpful comments
TIA.

If you don't have any cel, then you should be good! When you turn the key, does the cel come on for just a second? The light may be burned out if not!
The CEL glows a nice amber at start up and then shuts off...
Anyone know if Hondata effects the CEL at all?
BTW, nice car, my B16A is in a 94 EG2
TIA.

For archives sake...
It turns out that it was my cat convert that was causing the problem. After taking it off, the inner honeycomb element had melted/twisted so badly that it was blocking the air flow. So much so that the engine went in to a safe mode.
If curious this was a SMSP/Carsound cat that was put on in May 2003!
Anyone have any other suggestions for a cat that may hold up longer than that?
Regards.
