Default What ECU are you running?

Okay here is the thing. I got a b18c5 swap but i'm missing the ecu. I have one dude selling me one at 200.00- Should I just go with that. Or should I go and buy another ecu with a program. I heard of this one ecu called something like Kenji or something- Maybe it's just the program I don't know. Please shine some light on this subject my fellow TypeR heads.

a Kenji ecu is just a p28 ecu with a chip made by a person named Kenji. I have a chip programmed by kenji, however its tuned w/ a VAFC.

200 is a bit too much for a stock ecu, if you plan on doing anything to the motor you're gonna have to swap out and get something that can be programmed, i would contact kenji and just get a p28 with a chip with your desired specs then tune it w/ a VAFC

I sold mine for $125/shipped. Look around and you'll find better deals. I'd say the norm is about $150 for a USDM P73 ECU.

Kenji is also an option you'll want to consider. But you'll need a jumper harness for an obd1 ecu.

Oh yeah, I'm running a JDM P73 ecu. But that's because I'm running a JDM swap. There is very little difference in power gains between the JDM and USDM ecu's. I lost only about 1whp peak with the USDM ecu.

If I were you I'd email Kenji and discuss with him what it is that you intend to do w/your motor and your car. I think he'll tell you quite honestly if his programme is for you.

I think that most of the people who've purchased his ECU have mild mods, typical intake, header, exhaust, that kind of thing.

I have one of the cheaper Hondata myself, because the modifications are a little more extensive, and because the car is still a work in progress and it helps to be able to allow your mechanic to just hook up a laptop and tune it to the new build.

Kenji enjoys a great Honda Tech reputation, and I think you should go ahead and contact him for his opinion.

I went the kenji ECU route because my modifications are mild and didn't really need a standalone solution yet. Just wanted a simple solution to the CEL light being illuminated because of the lack of a secondary O2 sensor (I am running JDM ITR catalytic converter - OEM goodness).

Plus, as I put mods on my car, I just want to learn as much as I can so that I can tinker with it. I'm not quite ready to learn standalone/EFI tuning since I'm still trying to understand suspension tuning. As soon as I figure that out to the point where I'm not a complete newb, I'll think about going the lumpy cam route and learn about EFI tuning. At least enough so that I won't pop my motor.

Yep,

Kenjis ECU ist fine for the basic bolt on mods... Intake, throttlebody, header exhaust.... I guess it would be okay with mild cams (I ran it with JUN stage 2 and was fine).
But I wouldn`t use a Kenji ECU without that mods (wich lean out a bit)... Kenjis software runs very rich

RainmanEK ran kenji's ecu w/Vafc with skunk stage 1 cams an made 200whp.Kenji himself uses his programs when tunung his car(s) an makes very good #'s with after market cams.So it is possible to get make power without going hondata or a full stand alone, when you have more then just bolt ons.
