Do H22s burn oil?
Well I don't mean burn oil badly, but just a bit. Of course there's no blue smoke or anything!
When I changed the oil on my F22, the oil level would stay at the max point on the dipstick until the next oil change 3,000 miles later. That motor did not burn a teaspoon of oil in 130,000 miles. My friend's (Yellowcorn) Civic Si's B16 is the same.
I've still put less than 2,000 miles on my H22, but I've noticed a bit of oil consumption. I doubt I'll ever have to top it off between oil changes, but it sure isn't staying at the max mark on the dipstick like other Honda engines I've seen.
I've heard this is normal for a H22 though. Is this true?

hahahahaha do they burn oil hahahaha, thats a good one!! Your a funny guy you know that !

I only go threw about a half quart every 20 minutes of track time, but of course I am on the extreme end of the spectrum...

But yes, most H22A motors have a tendency to burn oil...

I think the kind of oil you use can have a little to do with it. But yes they like to burn it up. I us Mobil 1, and I usually end up adding another Quart before the next oil change. That doesn't count if I go to the track in between.

..there is no doubt that H22's burn oil, I have a feeling that it might have something to do w/ either the Fiber Reinforced Sleeves, piston design, etc.
Mine burns roughly 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart every 3000 miles. I use only synthetic Mobil 1.

The H22A is actually known for "eating" oil, maybe at most 1 qt. every 5,000 miles.

I've noticed that on the H22 the oil level on the dipstick varies greatly if it's been running. If it's been running within the last 20 minutes, it'll show a quart or more low. So checking your oil when you fill up for gas can be deceiving.

I know this is true on other cars besides ours, but I've never experienced it to be that pronounced of a difference. Other cars I've owned if I let it sit for 5 minutes while filling up, I could get an accurate reading.

Good point. I've only checked the only right after I've shut the engine off after a hard run.

Does a bear **** in the woods?? I think most h22a's burn oil, depending on how much VTEC you're doing.. I use mobil1 5w30. My last interval 8K km or 5K miles, two auto-x, one auto-x school, medium vtec, I burned about 1.5L.
Oh yeah, like said above, let the car sit for a while AND make sure it's on level ground. I've gotten lower mark readings while on a grade, right after an oil change.

Do you think so? I did a lot of VTEC during the auto-x's, especially the school.

I thought you might mean 1.5 quarts. 1.5 liters is a little excessive, if you ask me. You might want to do a compression check or something.

But over 5,00 miles and if, say, 75% of your driving time was in VTEC, it's probably possible.

Doesn't mater what motor you have if it has vtec it burns oil. Every time you hit vtec you burn oil especially when you take to those hi revs. I run 20 50 and try to keep my octane some were around 104-106 but the computer is programed to run 110. Can't find it here
