Default How do insurance companies determine actual book value of cars?

I these times where hondas are getting stolen left and right. In the case my car is stolen how would the insurance co. determin my cars worth?

I have gone through Kelly BB,edmunds, etc etc and they all seem to vary in price.

Someone clear this up and fill in the subjects i may have missed.

I THINK they give you roughly how much it would cost to replace your STOCK car in your local area. So basically how much it would take to buy the same car again to replace the one thats gone. Obviously a lot of us here have some disagreements about the value of the "mods" our cars have.

NADA is what decides everything for insurance and loans, on used cars. If you keep very good records and pics of your mods, you may get some fraction of the cost back, but that is a slippery sloap, because insurance companies are big fans of insuring modded cars in the first place.

They may increase the amount of reimbursement based on the mods, if they are street-legal and if you can sustantiate them with purchase receipts. (Save those receipts!) However, they won't necessarily give you anywhere near the full amount that you paid for them.
