How long did your Dunlop SP Sport 9000 or Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 tires last?
I can get 4 Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 tires for about $200....... and I can get the Dunlop SP Sport 9000 tires for about $400 for all 4 tires.......
whoever has either of these tires, please tell me how long your tires lasted and what kind of driving you did.......
I'm thinking, that since the Dunlop SP Sport 9000 tires cost twice as much I can get 2 sets of Kumho's for the same price as one set of Dunlops........ TIA

I have had the kuhmo's on now for 2 summers and about 15-20k later. The tires are holding up well and still quite good. However, I am noticing that the tires are loosing a little bit of grip. I also have a couple of autox's on them. I would recommend them for the price in a mnute! Any more questions let me know!
I live in Cali. Hook me up.
I payed 400 for 4 about a month ago. I have about 3k miles on them now. Looking at the tread, I think I will get at least 10-15k from them. BTW, my camber sucks but I am too lazy to have a camber kit put on.

Kumho 712s suck (yeah, the Z-rated ones). My old ALL-SEASON Dunlop 4000's were better than them. I guess it's okay though since they were so cheap. All they need are STIFFER sidewalls and more resistance to squeeling and they'd be great.
On the other hand, rain performance is amazing...lots of traction! For the price, dry traction is pretty good I guess, nothing that I'd rave about though.
Get Dunlop 9000, Potenza RE730, or Yokohama AVS, just do a search!
I dislike my Kumhos. I wouldn't recommend them.

well not exactly $200.... it's more like $230 plus shipping..... it's not that far off the normal price of $64 a tire at tirerack.com.... but I can get it for that price because my friend gets it cheaper from tirerack.com.... i don't know how, but i think he's got some relationship with them
so anyways, you guys say that the Kumho's start to lose a lot of grip after a bit of driving? and they only last 15k miles? I've heard of the Dunlop's lasting about 30k miles... maybe I should get the Dunlops

yeah, it seems the only reason people are so tolerant of the Kumhos is because they're so cheap..... i actually did a search and I couldn't really find out the real world tire longevity of these 2 brands of tires
kuhmos are OK if your tight on cash, even then save up. its not really that great of a tire.
i wont even get into how they are in the snow!

I dont understand how people can only get 15k out of a set. The treadwear number is 340! If you do burnouts all the time they will obviously NOT last! I have autocrossed with them and they have 15k on them with a lot of tread left. I will agree, these tires do not like the cold( get too hard) and they are not as soft as a yoko or dunlap, etc. But for just over 200 a set you can't go wrong. If you get 30k out of them you can buy one set for every 2 sets of the others and the others a 2x the price. Just my opinion.
Yeah, I used to dog my Kumhos also...but then I realized something. They are cheap...and they last decently long and give me decent grip for the street. Who cares if they're not the best.
I'm getting a set of race tires anyways. Besides, who wants to put tires that'll last 10K miles on the daily driver if daily driving involves 100 miles a day?
I've seen the light!

I could be missing something, but....
I can get a pair of cheap tires and have them installed for about $300 (cost of tires, and install), perhaps a little more, and they last 15k miles, or I have get some more expensive tires and have them installed for about $500 (cost of tires and install) that last about 30k miles.
I may be doing some bad math, but it looks like over the same mileage period the more expensive tires will be cheaper by about $100 when 30k miles has been hit.
of course if you do burnouts all the time, and no matter what brand of tire you get it only lasts 15k you should go with the cheap ones, but for most drivers that are cool with their tires, get the ones with the higher tread life, even if they are a little more expensive.
just MHO

most of the expensive/good street tires I know about have low tread life due to the soft and sticky nature of the tread.
i dont' do burnouts at all! all i do is drive daily with a lot of spirit..... taking corners fast, enjoying my rear ITR swaybar and basically just driving fast even straight line fast, but I don't drag race or autocross......... and when I do my spirited daily driving, I like to be in control and stay in control...... i also like a nice ride with hardly any road noise
Something just seems fishy about the Kumhos..... if they are so good, why are they soo cheap? they got to have something that lacks compared to the other tires.... but anyways, i would pay more for a nicer ride and less road noise, how do the kumho's ride and road noise compare with the Dunlops 9000's?

Thats weird, mine came with a 40,000 mile warrenty. I got mine at Merchants. I could have sworn that I had read some where that they were cheap because they had just intorduced the 712 series and wanted to get them out to people.
I just bought some of the kumhos, i used to have some yokohama tires that i justate through, and at 135 a pop i could not do it anymore, i went with the kumhos. I noticed a quieter ride over the yokos, but i did notice a bit more tire sqealing, something my other tires rarely did.
The difference is in the tread rating, my old tires had a rating of 130 or so, the new ones have 340 i believe. I also went ahead and got them as a 195/50/r15 instead of 195/55/r15. it was 7 dollars cheaper per tire, so i saved myself an extra 30 bucks, almost pays for the shipping. yes, i did buy mine from tirerack.com. I also think the lower sidewall helps, i will take the car autocrossing at the end of the month (providing i have not sold the car by then) and can report back about that later. I have only had the tires for about 1000 miles, but i would buy them again.

maybe you should wait till the end of the tire's life before commiting to buying them again.... cuz from what I researched, the kumho's start to lose a lot of grip at 15k miles and start getting really loud(in terms of road noise) at 10k miles........ this is only what i've heard from people who used to own them... but i will count your response as a plus for the kumhos
does the treadwear(besides the hardness of the tire compound) determine how noisy the tires will be?

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/pirelli/pi_p700z.jsp -- $52/tire, good on wet/dry pavement; no squealing. On the same set 25k miles later...
get two set of kumho....hehehehehehehe
200 for all four...when they go out, use the second set u bought for 200
