hondata....yes or no?

I love hondas and have a great motor that i installed myself with the help of my buddy( ok he did most of it
)but i dont know performance upgrading besides bolt ons. So my question for you is this. Well first let me tell you what i have. A 2000 si with a jdm b18c(R), dc 4-2-1 header, and a comptech icebox. My question for you is, how much good would a hondata ecu do for me!! Id appreciate any help that you guys have to offer.

Were kind of dead in this forum today huh.....Well whoever happens to read this next, hook me up. Thanks to all i appreciate it kindly.
If you had something that needed to be tuned then it would be worth it. If you havent done anything to the motor really it would be nearly useless for you. with a stock motor use a stock ecu or a chipped one which will save you several hundred. youll only need a hondata when you step up your game and put some reall $$ into the motor.
Actually, gains have been made using Hondata on stock engines still giving more power. Hondata had done it on their site and tuned a Civic Si gaining avg of 3.5 whp. So I would go as far as saying it was useless even with a stock engine. But once you start stepping it up, there's more to gain. Especially because you start throwing off your a/f ratio and the stock fuel/ignition tables just aren't cutting it anymore. I myself am hating my 4400 VTEC crossover with a skunk2 intake manifold. Need to get my ECU socketed ASAP. Many have considered Hondata to be the best mod they've put on their car.

Hondata is a socketed extension of the stock ECU, not a standalone ECU replacement like the AEM EMS. For the mods that you have, it would be pretty much useless as mentioned. Unless you are going forced induction or a built motor (internals, cams, etc.) I wouldn't bother with Hondata. For you current setup, an Apex-i VAFC would be enough to do some small fine-tuning.

just get the hondata...trust me. i was in you same predicament last summer and i ended up buying a VAFC. just today i got the ecu sent out for hondata. you won't leave the car stock for long. might as well have the hondata now and save yourself some money later.
