i got the type r cams from that HT deal. i'm going to buy a VAFC. how important are adjustable cam gears?

Very important, if you plan on being able to tune. Stock cam gears are non-adjustable.

I assume you'll be dyno tuning, in which case it would save you time and money to have the sprockets adjusted at the same time, rather than installing and tuning them at a later date.

You might as well buy adjustable cam gears. Since you are putting on cams, you should do it now and dont have to worry about it in the future. I'll save you the grief anyways in the long run and especially when you want to tune your car. So definately look up a good set of gears.

Just out of curiousity, do you have to have a cut valve cover in order to adjust the cam gears?

No, but removing and reinstalling the cover to make adjustments after each pull is not really practical. I always suggest buying a cheap used cover to cut and use for tuning, leaving the original one un-cut and able to prevent debris from coming in contact with the belt and sprockets.

Definately get some cam gears. Do it all right the first time.

Your also going to need to find a valve cover to cut for the dyno. Its always good to have an extra one hanging around anyway.
