DIY: Tranny Install?!?!?!
mmmk rite now i got this M2B4 chillin in the garage and now im just waiting on the clutch and flywheel before i can install it plus some other small things. i shood be gettin this clutch/flywheel combo (Hyper stage 2+JUN) but im not sure which Jun yet, is there really a difference? its like .4kgs? which one would be best for daily driving, auto-x, a little drag, but mostly road race? i will also be using GM synchro mesh, am i sposed to get the friction modified or not? a forbidden shifter, and all that goodness.
but now to the point of this thread. i have searched and have come up empty handed, i need to know how do do the tranny install. im talkin bout everything from pulling the axles(without damaging them), installing the new clutch and flywheel, and bleeding the whole system. im surprised there isnt a DIY of this already
, oh and pics make it easier but i can use my imagination
. maybe it should be added to the essential prelude links, because we all know how much prelude trannies suck, and i have a feeling it wont be the last time.
and one last thing any tips you guys have on making easier to man handle this "thing" during installation and removal are greatly appreciated. becuz i can proly bench no more than 130lbs and i dont think that i need to bang tha crap out of my $850 beauty while trying to lift it in there or smash up the other one when she decides to come out. (there will be several others helping with this install) thanks guys
p.s.: you can stop laughing about my bench max now...

Have done this with the help of a Helms manual...so much there you can't learn from a post online. So my suggestion would be
1. Buy a manual at helminc.com. Best money you'll ever spend.
2. May want to get a tranny jack. Sure does help.

Whatever year prelude you own, there is a shop manual one i believe, i still gotta pick up mine.http://www.helminc.com/helm/pr...43LE0
Like said above, best $62.00 ever spent.

1. buy a Helms manual. it will walk you through the hole thing.
some quick tips.
1. drain the tranny fluid 1st. the 1/4" bolt on the bottom right side of the tranny. urs a 1/4" breaker bar.
2. take out the cotter pins from the bottom of the hub and then remove the 17mm bolts.
3. take a big *** sledge hammer and bang on the LCA while pulling up in the hub. this will seperate the hub from the lca. you need to do this so u can take the axel out of the diff.
4. dissconnect the slave cylinder from the tranny. u dont need to open any lines. just undo the two 12mm bolts. tuck it away so it wont get damaged. dont push the clutch while its disconnected!
5. losen all the bolts that connect the tranny to the engine. bunch of 17mm, few 10 & 12mm on the flywheel cover. dont forget to under the bolts from the rear mount bracket.
6. remove axels. passenger side : use big flat head screw driver.. stick it between the axel and the diff and give a nice push. should pop right out. driver side: unbolt the half shaft from the back of the engine. 3 14mm bolts. should be able to do the same thing here, give it a tug and it should pop right out of the diff.
7. have someone help you.. two or three friends is perfect. have two on top, and one under the car. two on top will wiggle the tranny off and the one on the bottom will catch it. yea yea.. sounds dangerous.. but works perfect. rest it on ur chest.. and then drop it off to one side.. slide on out
8. un do the clutch bolts from the flywheel.. 12 sided 12mm. then use a 12 sided 17mm and unbolt the flywheel from the clutch. not theres a dowel pin on the flywheel.. so it only goes on one way. same thing with the clutch pressure plate. only goes on one way.
9. now put all the new stuff in, same way u took it out. make sure you torque everything to spec. those flywheel bolts are VERY important. you dont want them backing out on you.
10. pay me $150 and do the whole thing for you! take me just a little over 3 hours.. not rushing. are you in CA? if you want help while you doing it, hit me up on AIM : Downeybear1 or gimme a call if you need some tech advice. 408-250-2324
