Tranny problems?
I have a 1991 honda accord 2.0 (I Think) with an automatic tranny. The problem I'm having is that the tranny doesn't make it to the last gear. The tranny does make it to overdrive (D4) but doesn't make that last small shift. I don't know if this is a gear or the fully lock up of the torque convertor. This car has a sport feature on the shifter. In the past when things were normal, if the sport switch was activated the car would drop down to this gear that I'm currently having trouble getting past. Now when I activate this switch nothing happens!! Can someone give me a lil info on this problem. Do I have a bad tranny or blown fuse???

The issue you are experiencing is the cable that runs from your throttle body to the transmission is out of adjustment.
NOTE: Before adjusting the throttle control cable, make sure:
* Engine is at normal operating temperature
* Throttle cable free play is correct
* Idle speed is correct
* Throttle linkage is in the full closed position
1. Remove throttle cable free play. NOTE: You can work the throttle body linkage by hand.
2. Apply light thumb pressure to throttle control lever on transmission, then work the accelerator or throttle linkage.
3. The lever should move just as engine speed increases above idle. If not, proceed to step 4.
4. Loosen nuts on control cable at transmission end and synchronize control lever so engine speed increases just as lever moves.

Hey mykirchner, a while back I had a problem with the car idling to low. I fixed the problem by adjusting the throttle cable. I can't recall if the tranny problem and the idle problem showed up together. I had no idea these two had anything to do with each other. Also, I maybe missing it altogether. I'm no mechanic. Thanks for the help.

To begin with ... you do NOT adjust the idle on these cars using the throttle cable. There is a mixture screw on the side of the throttle body that is used to adjust it. If you did indeed use the cable to adjust your idle then that is why you are now having transmission problems as the cable that runs down to the transmission will now be out of adjustment. You will have to readjust the throttle cable (make sure it has free play when the throttle is closed and car is up to temperature) and then you would have to adjust the transmission cable.
