Im fucked..
lay the spring on the ground put your foot on it and losen the nut with a impact. Do this away from he car because strut is going to shot out. Make sure you stand clear

If I can't get a hold of a spring compresser, I've always loosen the nut while the strut is still in place and the car on the ground. That way when you jack up the car, the spring decompresses on its on.

Out of all the ideas presented so far the above is the safest way to decompress a spring without a spring compressor. You can do the same with the strut off the car, but there is considerable amount of stored kinetic energy in the spring.

Do it on the car. Loosen the bottom of the strut, then remove the center nut off the shock without taking the top hat thingy off. This way it just releases the spring and strut from the black top thingy, no spring compresser needed. Worked every time I put someones coilovers on. Kinda hard to explain.
this thread is about comparing ways to be ghetto!..all we need now is advice on how to cut springs....
but I have to say that I have done it before...

Well heres another ghetto way for you BUT to put them ON.....
See I was running into this same problem where the spring compressor wouldnt fit with the dust boots and my neuspeed/Konis and Neuspeed sport springs and since they have a shorter shaft they had to be comprssed in order to be put on.
So what I did was I used the spring compressor on the just the spring itself compressed it to how far it needed to be compressed, grabbed some tape rope (rope that is very strong and basically looks like tape) wrapped it around all of the compressed springs tied it up really good (also went around a few times) and then took off the spring compressor SLOWLY so the rope then held it compressed put it over my shock bolted the top hat on and then untied them and viola!!! Worked like a charm! Now this may not be the safest but I just wanted the damn things mounted and it worked great for me.

I just get the top nut loose almost to the point that the spring will shoot off, then i get the drill with the correct socket on the end, put my body wieght on it, and just slam teh drill, so that my body absorbes all the pressure, doesnt hurt at all, jsut kidna scares you when i tdoes go. You ahve to get the nut almsot all the way off, so that the shaft doesnt turn when you turn the nut without holding it. ANd with lowering splrings, its ussually alot easier to put on, considering htey are a but shorter. It helps to have two people though.,

EDIT : **** I forgot to add the quote of JDMoutlaw.... with the impact and the strut... one feet over the strut... anyway go up tha page and read his post.
do it that way, but add a tire laying flat on the ground just behing the strut and one in front of the impact... those two tire will absorb the energy released by the tire....like this: ()-------() the () represent the tire, and the ---- represent the shock with the impact...
keep your head out of tha way man, those thing can kill pretty easy... imagine receiving a shot of an Easton Aluminium bat in the face, except that way, it's comming with a 450 pound swing...
good luck
