Smog Referee ticket.. Sell the car? =[
Hey guys. I know this has been discussed before. i read the archives. but i need diferent options. Im in California.
i Have a 90 CRX with a b16a. the year on the motor is 89, so i know im screwed right there. swaping a stock engine is not an option. i have no $$ since im getting married in Jan. =].
Do i have the option of just selling the car? I dont mind since its a money pit anyways. but if i sell the car will they just have me pay a fine and thats it??
Has anyone done this? Or just transfered the title and paid the ticket and transfered the title back?
Any options other then trying to make the car pass would be appreciated.

I live in Connecticut and all the check for is to see if you have a catalytic converter. Why is it so hard to pass in California? I know the emmission standards are much higher, But I would think if you have a well tuned up car that you would pass. Are you not allowed to have a different engine than stock?, And do they actually check?
Ref is not hard.
But Japan motors won't pass u need to **** with it until it passes.
I have learned the hard way
slapping a new cat won't help for **** if you failing. I suggest you sell ur car and motor since u have more important things to take care off.

well.. i have a guy that will smog the car. what i dont know is if i goto sell the car if it still has to be certified by a referee.
I think you wouldn't have to ref it if the guy passes your car. Does the state know that you have a different motor in there? I'm not too sure though, so don't take my word for it.
sorry to bring this back up but i'm in the same situation and i need to know if it is okay to sell the car out of state if i have a ref ticket.. i'm also located in california.
its not only that you have to convert to obd1 on the b16. but also jdm b16's have higher compression which cause to fail the pipe test all the time i was reading it on last months import tuner pick one up they let you no everything they tried to ref a jdm b16 and kept going back just to fail check it out.

The USDM and 1G JDM B16A both have the same 10.2:1 compression ratio. And at 10.4:1, the compression ratio of the 2G JDM B16A is pretty much negligible.

check this out man ima tell you a story. this really happened to me. i got a bar ticket and only had to pay 70 dollars. no ref no fine. i crashed my car after i got the ticket and forgot about the ticket. months later i hafta renew my liscence and they wont let me unless i pay the ticket. went to the courthouse to pay it. they told me 600 i said looks like im goin to court. went to court with all kinds of pictures of my car crashed, parted out, and the bill of sale from the tow company that took it. judge didnt ask for any of it after i told him i crashed the car. he just said if i could pay the 70 FTA today. and i said sure i can. that was it. no ref no smog just 70 dollars. im not saying you should lie about crashing your car. im just telling you that if you did you might only hafta pay 70 dollars haha.
my $0.02.. don't want to be flamed!
a buddy of mines got a ticket for an exhaust, he sold his car shortly after, but you got to think about it, it's still under your name and they just don't give a f*.. they just want money, so you might want to consider changing your crx to obd1, sell your b16 swap get a GSR one, and try to ref it. or just try to ref your JDM b16 and fail it, and then you can show the judge that you're actually trying to get everything corrected and LEGAL. do what i did, just get continuaces for like a year .. i'm not sure if they're that leaneant now. but at the end they dropped my charges(bought a DA w/o vin dash)
i'd just try to convert it to obd1, but then you would have to spend more money, ..

why not?
another idea you can try, convert to OBD1>>>swap in the 92-95 EG(civic) single cam sohc v-tec motors. and hope you pass
and cross your fingers >> hope they just don't put "SINGLE OVER HEAD CAM 1.6 LITER " YOU WANT IT TO SAY "1.6 LITER VTEC
ALOT OF THE GUYS WHO GOT BAR'D LS WISH THEIR BAR'D STICKER DIDN'T SAY "1.8 LITERS NON V-TEC"
