state ref help
yes he will have to still take it.
you cannot have it under your bro's last name. Anyone related is a no no. I had to sell mine outside of CA, the reason is if you try to sell it to someone here in CA, there is a law that you have to smog it first before you sell it. Sure you can try to rip off a person by selling them the car "As is" but that is on you. You are the one that is going to have to be responsible for that. also just think of it this way once a car has been issued a ticket to the state ref, no matter the owner it will have to go to the state ref.
I would suggest "selling" it to a friend outside CA. Then have him/her register it. I sold my old car in AZ. The buyer bought it and smogged it. They do not have strict CA laws there. and he registered and smogged it just fine.
I feel for you man I lost a car that way but it worked out in the end.
If I really think about it I should have just paid the amount to put my car back to stock form (it is was costly but probably better than buying a new car) and no turbo then I would have still been able to keep it. plus it would have been cheaper and much better.
or you can try and pass the three tests before they take it. Before they would give you money for the loss but now they can just take it without any cash given. if you pass the tests you will never have to worry about any mods because your car will be bar certified. talk to hazw8st he knows his ****. costly but effective and the best.
or you can just sell your car now and buy yourself a new one and think of what to do smog-wise. I had to ask myself do I really need to go much faster or try and save more gas. then reality sat in and I realized I want to keep a car, and not lose it to:
tickets
state ref
smog issues
it sucks but I hear you. hopefully this shed some light or ideas.
but yeah it is a hassle with the state ref. let me know if anything by pm-ing me. goodnight.

no you dont have too, sell it to your friend just to make sure. my friend got a state ref and sold it to someone in california. and all he did was paid the court fee which is 60 dollar, and the other guy didnt even have to do anything to it, like going to state ref or such and such
your posts makes me sad... trickdb
but then again my car was not driven for like two years and was not registered and was considered a gross polluter.
anyways:
if your buddy did that and got away with it, then kudos to him for selling it. btw I never paid anything to sell my car, what court fee did he have to pay? and did your friend find out if the other guy did not pay anything at all?
anyways to help the original thread starter out, here are some things I went through:
http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/st...False
this is pretty basic just the rules and all and BAR's website
http://smogtips.com/frequentlyaskedquestions.cfm
smog tips and will mostly answer any questions
there was another one where it lists all EO stamped aftermarket parts that have been tested for CA. let me see if I can find it:
http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/a...e.php
I Found it! it has edelbrock and greddy on there listed. pretty interesting lists of aftermarket stuff that can be "considered" legal, I believe some are pending for their status. So far for integra owners, it seems as though it is HKS USA that has had some remarks for turbocharging your DC.
bah anyways I know most of this won't help you, but there are two links there provided that can help you find your answers.
Hope that helps somewhat.
Good luck on your car.
