So you know it is working. There is vacuum in that hose and the clicking you hear is the check valve in the PCV valve. If you squeeze it and hear nothing ... it is clogged.

a pcv valve is a check valve. it only allows flow in one direction. when it is under vacume, it opens up. when you clamp the hose, you remove the vac source. the click is the sound of the valve closing
