I am finding myself pulling out my old clay bar very often to remove tar stains and the like on my ITR. I am just wondering, can claying the car often hurt the paint ?? Anyone ?

 

I dont think that its a harsh enough abrasive to actually do damage to the clearcoat. If you are damaging the paint, you would see it because you are only doing little parts of the car. It would look like dull spots. I clay my car every few months as well, but for tar I use bug and tar remover,and wash the area immediatly after. You may damage the paint from rubbing the tar around repeatedly though..

 

Using a Clay Bar often on a cars paint will not hurt if used properly. Make sure the bar is not complety dirty(if so purchase a new one). When using Clay Bar you should always do it it small areas at a time, and do not be shy on using alot of product to keep the area completly wet. I use a bodyshine or something ver similar when I clay. Once you have clayed small sections then wipe dry very lightly with a soft terry cloth.

Once done that I would suggest going over all areas clayed if not the entire car with a good cleaner wax, then at least one coat of a Carnuba based qaulity Product.

 

I use the clay bar like 4-5 times max. Then i go get a new one. Only 15-20 bucks.
If its too dirty just throw it away and get a new one. Stop causing micro marring on your paint.

 

I've never heard of using it too much and hurting the finish as long as you use it correctly and at your discretion as per it being spoiled.

Heck, I have loads of the stuff but, no time to do it, I buy the pro pack 3 bars in a can on sale.
