Default Where to buy a new cat?

I have a 99 v6 accord. My gas mileage sucks. Im going to swap out my o2 and cat to see if that helps.

But it seems as if I cannot buy any other cat except from the factory (cant even find it at most online parts stores).

anyone know how to go about replacing it

Go to your local muffler shop. You may need to sign a waiver saying that they DID NOT REMOVE your current catalytic converter before they sell you a new one (because of smog laws). A new OE spec one shouldnt cost you more than $50....

a new catalytic converter will not improve mileage unless yours is melted closed.

the o2 sensor will help though.

if the cat is messed up, then it will just ruin the new o2

I didnt ask if you liked it or not....

And when I did my custom exhaust on my turbo'd IROC a couple years back I went to one the many reputable muffler shops that is very capable of making custom headers, custom mandrel bent systems, and matching it all up with any type of muffler/cat you want. Around this area we have enough shops that deal with speed setups as well as OE and economy setups. If you want to pay for economy, then you can go that route or you can pay a little more and get whatever the hell you want.

what's your mileage like?
<20mpg? <18mpg?

If your doing all city (*cough* SF *cough*), then crappy mileage out of a V6 auto is not out of line. Unfortunately, it won't sip gas like your old gsr.

well, mixed highway/city i get about 18. Sometimes down to 16. Sometimes all highway is around 22-23. Either way, I would expect 20-23 mixed city/highway.

I have a new o2 and fuel filter ready to install

your local muffler shops carry warranteed catalytic converters, and often carry carsound or other high flow brands. almost every muffler shop i have been to does high performance work as well as oem economy replacement stuff. many of the local ones to me also do things like custom race systems, roll cages, and chassis fabrication as well.
