IM DRIVING HOME AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CEL LIGHT COMES ON.. AND THE SPEEDOMETER STOPS WORKING.. THEN I NOTICE THAT MY LIGHTS KEEPING DIMMING.. THE LIGHTS GET BRIGHT AND THEN DIM OVER AND OVER AGAIN.. THEN THE SPEEDOMETER (WHILE STOPPED IS SHOWING 100MPH AND JUMPS TO 20MPH,,) I GET THE CAR HOME AND TRY TO TURN HER ON AGAIN AND SHE WONT TURN OVER.. IM GUESSING THE ALTERNATOR GAVE? ANYBODY HAVE ANY IDEAS OR HAS HAD THIS HAPPEN?

 

First you dont have to yell. Sounds like either your alternator or igniter went out on you.

 

Would the alternator going out cause the speedometer to jump around like that?

 

Did you check to see if one of your battery terminals popped off?

Otherwise since it was so sudden your alternator is probably fucked. Get a Helms manual, they have the procedure to diagnose a charging system problem.

 

can you jump it off? Def go through and try the charging tests. As far as the speedo jumping around, I can only gues it had something to do with the electrical surges.

 

A buddy of mine had the same problem. He has a B16A2 in a '97 coupe. His was doing the same exact thing. He hit a bump and it started to do this. Come to find out his alternator was bad and his VSS Fuse was blown, which is what caused his speedo to go crazy. Check both of these out and let us know what it is.
