Trunk Release / Remote windows on a 95 ls
would it be possible to get trunk release w/ the alarm i'm about to install on my 95 ls ? i hear i need to buy a motor or something, some guy at circuit city said it'd be $100 for the motor and installation, that sounds insane to me.
same for the windows, he said it'd be $100 extra. that's $500 for a viper 300esp w/ windows and trunk release and installation, $250 for just the alarm and installation. $250 seems kind of pricey for just the convience of windows and trunk releases....

Yes, you can have it done. Tell the installer to use a "Door lock solenoid" to release the trunk. I've done it many times and it works great. 6 years in my own car and still poping the trunk fine.
As for the windows, you need to purchase a "window module" to control the up and down movement of the windows. Plus installing it is a bitch, the installer has to run wires into your door around the factory molex plug. I had to take my door off to do it properly. (no joke)
Sure it's an investment, you just have to decide if it's worth it.

First off, you can go to the junkyard and get an actual trunk popping solenoid of an old Buick in a junkyard... tell the installer to use that... Power windows are a bitch of an install as said earlier.... you can get powerwindow parts from http://www.Autoloc.com but if you have never done this work B4, I dunno if you would be up to doing it.... especially if you don't have the proper tools...
I love to do this sh*t, I just installed my door poppers (solenoids) a few months ago... I had to drill a hole in the door and twist my back into a pretzel to perform the install on the front doors... it was difficult for me and I used to be an audio installer ! If you've never done this... shell for the install fees.... but at least get the parts yourself...

you can actuall pop the door open like the trunk with a door solenoid, instead of just unlocking it? that's pretty sweet, i'll have to look into that. can they install those as well?
autoloc sells solenoids for about $100, doh i guess it's about the same

No, it's doesn't POP it open, it simply pulls the locking mechanism..... just like when you use your manual trunk release..... If you want the truck to POP open, you will need to custom mount a hydraulic piston, like on a hatch...

Door lock solenoids run about $15 new. Truck pop solenoids from the junkyard are about the same price, but you never know how long it'll work for, plus you'll have to find a way to secure it, and connect it to your trunk mechinism.
Trust me on this one, a door lock solenoid will work perfectly, fit behind the panels properly and last for a long time.

wow that's cheap for the door solenoid, i think i'll go with that...
it's the trunk solenoid that worries me, that and the window are $100 each.
