hey, i just started up my prelude the other day because it hadn't been started up for about a month and there was a little bit of white smoke coming out of my exhaust. is it because of the oil issue? burning oil? running rich? or something else? maybe it was still cold? any help would be appreciated thanks.

(PS. the car hasn't been running on the streets or anything for about 3 months now. took it out about 3 times maybe the most.) (if that might help out some)

 

white smoke usually denotes that you're burning coolant. is it white or bluish white?

 

Spitting out a little smoke out the exaust is normal, but i think yours is more related to the low use of it. If the car sits still for to long dust, dirt or carbon will build up in your exaust and come out once you drive it.

 

thats what i was thinking. since i hadn't driven it for such a long time.

 

i also have that problem, but only every morning when i start the car or when i let it set for a while, not because it is cold outside, and it also smell like gas, anyone know this problem?

 

The reason it is doing that in the morning is due to the condensation that collects inside your exhaust piping. It mixes in with all the soot inside of your exhaust, then when your car starts up it will burn all the condensation off. I am not sure why it smells like gas though... is the car stock?

 

ok, i turned my car on again today and there is still a little bit of white smoke coming out. then i reved it up and went outside to look at the smoke, there was a little bit more smoke now obviously but it kinda smelled like fumes. just like what the other guy said in this thread. waht is this from? im scared.... oh yea also, this one time before i stopped driving, i guned my car and going from 1 to 2 there was a bit of white smoke that my friend told me that came out of the exhaust when he was in the car behind me. can this relate in some way? well atlesat i think from what i rem. it was white, maybe black or something not sure i cna't rem. it was probably 4 months ago.

 

Do a cylinder leakdown test. That will tell you if your rings are shot.

 

my car is stock, and alot of white smoke come out of the exhast plus it idel high(@ 2.5k rpm), can this be the tps? compresion test was 175 to 185 across,

Considering it hasn't been started in a month theres a good chance that its just condensation and you might want to change your oil..GL

 

my car has 183xxx miles on it..and it puts out alot of white smoke only if i get it a good amount of throttle....doesn't seem to be coolant ..its just alot of miles do that to a car
