Damn Ticking at Idle, valve adj done many times, lma's fine...
So, there's a ticking at idle, not all the time but just after idling for a min or so... valve adj has been done many times, along with checking of LMA's, but ticking persists. Any idea's???
Setup:
Stock H22A
CAI, Exh.
ACT clutch, CM fw
Valves set to - Int: 0.006 and Exh: 0.007

oh come one guys, whats the possible scenarios, searched and only found "valve adj. needs to be done" and "it's possible the LMA's aren't working properly, so get new ones"...
My car has been ticking at idle for as long as i can remmember. Even after a valve adjustment. I noticed after i installed the CAI the sound was more noticable, so maybe that has something to do with it.
not to jack your thread but what are the LMAs and what exactly do they do because i kinda have the same problem and i have done a valve adjustment a few times but the noise is still there. how do you check them?

They're purpose is to prevent the Vtec Rocker arm from wobbling around when the engine is not in Vtec mode. The just have a spring with a head that pushes up on the vtec lobe while not it vtec.

basically, when your injectors get clogged, or something breaks in them, they tick loudly. you injectors click anyways, they just arent very loud.
think of it this way, when u press the lock and unlock button on your door, you can hear the actuator, and whenu try to lock it after its locked, or unlock it after its unlocked, the actuator itself makes a louder noise.
fuel injectors are nothing more than small acutators, and they open and close at the rate of miliseconds, so, when one is stuck open or closed (typically they hang open though b/c trash can hang them u as it passes through) it will make a very rapid clicking that sound very very similar to valve tick

also, what weight oil are you running, when my motor was real tired i was running 15-40 cause it would burn it faster then i could dump it in, the valves were def louder at start up with the heavier oil
Would running on empty alot clog your injectors? I tend to wait till the last minute to get gas and i know all that dirt and deposit at the bottom of the tank could get sucked in. But wouldnt it affect the fuel pump or filter first? The fuel is filtered before i gets to the injectors, right?
yes, it is filtered, but occasionally, small deposits can still pas though. the end of the injectors where the fuel passes through is about the size of a small sewing needle, so even a speck of dust could hang it up

So what would help this out, possibly replacing the fuel filter, getting the injectors flowed and tested?
No mine doesnt, it ticks at idle no matter the engine temp. It's an inconsistent ticking, only does for a little while, stops...then a couple times, stops for a minute, does it for 5 min then stops for 10 seconds. It's unpredictable and there is no pattern to follow.
