i want to pick up a 1994 GSR rack with 100k miles. do racks go bad? i cant see them going bad anyone????????
should i shop around for one with lower milage?
please let me know

 

The only thing off the top of my head that can go bad would be that the gears would be worn from wear. Usually high mileage will do this eventually. But I'm talking wayyyy high. I don't think I've ever heard of a bad steering rack except for my friend's '32 ford coupe. Or, if its power assist, maybe some seals would leak?? Thats just my .02 Since it only has 100k on it and its almost impossible to abuse that component (sans driving off-road and huge bumps/potholes all the time) I would say its probably ok. Are you getting it from a trustworthy source?

my mom had here rack and pinion go out in here 88 maxima back in the day. that car was such a lemon though. never heard of it going out on hondas though.

 

It prolly won't 'go out'... but they get loose over time.... mine kinda is at 110K

 

well mine is screwed when i turn the wheel it just clicks and keeps turning and the wheels wont move so i need to get a new or used one ...
