What about checking your steering rack boots? I just had my driver's side one replaced.... yesterday. It was torn at the outside end (thank god) and I could see that it was "wet" looking on the rubber. I also had my cv boot changed because I could see that it was starting to crack. So it's time to be vigilant on this stuff. But ten years for a cv boot is good I think. I wanted to go ahead and have the other steering boots changed, but my mechanics wouldn't let me. So now I will just worry about it and check on it every time the car is on the lift for an oil change. lol.
