Default Very odd problem with GSR just developed..

Had a very odd thing happen to my yesterday. On the way to the video store, the car was behaving perfectly fine, but on the way home I noticed when I'd approach 4k rpm the car would sputter tremendously and refuse to climb in rpm. If I tipped the throttle more than 60-70%, the injectors would shut down completley untill I let off the throttle and the car would resume idle. Again, this is only if you tip the throttle hard and begin to boost or are around 4k rpm, has anybody heard of anything like this? Does Hondata have a limp mode with a low rev limiter? The CEL has been on for some time, though whenever I try to pull the code by jumping the service plug, the light won't flash and give me the code so I'm kinda stuck here. Any ideas??

Sounds like it may be the famous hondata hesitation.....

Nah, this isn't just hesitation, this is something very different.

I am having the same problem intermittently with my wife's hondata. I reset the ecu and it has not come back as of yet.. Possibly hondata but hopefully a tuning guru will help us understand.. The weird thing is that I can not get a code when the Check Engine light comes on..

If you unplug the interface box to the ECU you get a 4000 rev limit. Check the cable.

yea it sounds like a cable connection, I'm no hondata guru but from what I've read this sounds like it.

Exactly...not only that, but a solid CEL would indicate an ECU problem.

Something is not right with the connection to the Hondata. No Hondata = CEL & 4K revlimit.

LOL. That makes sense. The hondata is in the glove box and I haven't secured it well. Will run down and get some Velcro after work.

Ok well, I left Frank at SFP a message so i'll be waiting for him to get back to me. Like I said, the CEL has been on since I picked up the car and I've never been able to pull a code. I've reset the ECU and it still stays on. I'll recheck the ECU-->Hondata connection tonight and see if I can resolve anything, thanks

Alright so get this guys, I played around with the Hondata --> ECU connection, nothing doing, still have a solid CEL. I went ahead and removed the Hondata/P28 altogether, and plugged up the stock P72, turn the key and viola! No CEL... remove the P72 and swap the P28 back in, solid CEL

Whatever the problem is, it seems to be surrounding the P28 yet the car is driving fine now. Any idea?? Is the S200B any different in operation than previous Hondata's? I ask because I unplugged the bluebox from the ECU while driving and I was able to boost the car perfectly, plug it back in and no change. Whatever was causing the 4k limter/sputter is gone (probably a loose connection) but the CEL is still alive and kicking....... anybody experience anything like this??????

Dave,

What is the code that the P28 is throwing? Is it code 1? or is it the No flash code?

I still think you have a problem with one of the ROM chips or with the box its self.

Solid CEL, no flash code. My understand is that it's a "0" which is general PCM failure, yet my car runs like a champ?

And of course nobody at SFP has called...

Usally when it does that there is a connection error, with either a ROM chip or one of the cables. I have had mine do this before, and on one instance it was the little blue box, which i had to send back to hondata to be repaired.

Dave, I am trying to get a hold of Hondata to unlock my datalogging so I can find out what happens when the code flashes. By the way anyone know the Hours of Hondata? I called but no answer and the hours aren't online.

Alright.. I think my problem has something to do with Auto A/C on and off feature. The car did not throw a cell but it did have the 3000 rpm blip. I LOVE the datalogging on this thing.. The AC light pops on and off when I get the blip while cruising partial throttle. I am reviewing the recorded datalogger as we speak.. Not to get off topic but the datalogging would have been perfect for tuning.. It shows what cells you are at while driving for fuel and timing. I am using Crome for my car now, but I am going to research for the Datalogging option made by the same person who created Crome. I will keep you posted on the fix..
