Default Four probes, one EGT gauge, and a rotary 4-pos switch

I am thinking of placing an EGT probe on each runner before the collector before the turbine. Would a 4 position switch to one EGT gauge work?

Since EGTs don't need to heat up while in use like O2 sensors (although the O2 could have been heated without reading the AF) would it be as easy just to select which runner you want to read/tune by?

I use a dual-pole switch to toggle between O2 sensors on my B16 (the 1st-gens have twin O2 sensors, one for two cylinders). So I don't see why it wouldn't work. Just connect the lead to the gauge from the 'output' and connect the input from the senders to the 'input' leads.

It should..... EGT probes are thermal couples (bi-metal) you have to be careful when you select a switch and what material it is made out of. If you use the wrong type you will get incorrect readings.

Ok I found a switch box you can use ..... but it costs $166...

Goto http://www.mcmaster.com

then put this part # in : 38475K33

It will switch upto 6 probes.

That is still a reasonable price considering a couple Autometer dual EGT gauges would total about $450 vs. a single EGT gauge ($120) and the switcher ($170) = $290.

Remember you have to factor in the cost for the extra probes.

You are still buying 4 probes total in each of the pricing scenarios that I presented.

FYI- probes are about $35-40 each from teamrip.com or from pegasus racing.

for all that money just get a wideband, who cares if it has to heat up, can't wait less than 5 minutes to tune?

also no guesswork involved, you go lean you know it.

but you might be going lean in one cylinder = not good. Alot of racing teams put a egt in each primary to make sure they are getting each cylinder balanced, then they plug the probe bungs when they are ready to hit the track.

i was about to say something about the impedance skewing the readings, but then i saw this thing.

man. every day, i find a new reason to love McMaster-Carr even more

how are you gonna know when you can only monitor one egt at a time?

make 4 runs switching to a new cyl. each time?

i vote for a 4-channel data logger since you cant read 4 gauges at a time or switch between 4 sensors during one run. in other words, turn on the data logger, make one run, then review 4 plots

Thats exactly how you would do it. I belive motec has inputs for that many probes and can track them.
