h23 vtec $ vs. h22 $
i have a 92 si and a spare h23 engine. i want to go turbo but that would set me back like $5000. $ 4000 for turbo kit and $1000 to prep bottom end. recently though i want to add v-tec in the mix mainly for the tunability it offers. here is my question for those that have done the frankestine swap. which is most cost effective:
1. mount the h22 head on the block or,
2. buy the entire engine itself.
thanx in advance.

well, if you have the money and the time. Go turbo. If you dont have the money needed for that then i would just go for the H22. I personally dont have any experience with the h23/h22 so i will leave that up to others to comment on
on jdmshit i could get the vtec head for $395 and entire change over for $2400. big price difference but how much more money should i expect to encounter for the h23 frankenstein?
obd1 p13 ecu is the one i need right? and the 92 si should have the ecu wiring harness that supports vtec right?

well, if all reality you dont need the entire change over. you can either do just the engine and use the h23 trans or you can get the long block that has the trans for around $1200...
Also if you read the entire thread about the h23/h22 conversions you will have to do a few more things then just slap the h22 head on.
Yes, you will need the obd1 p13. As far as the harness goes you will have to run 3 wires for vtec related components, but it will work with the h23 harness. (unknown if i actually answered the question you asked)

IMO, you should buy a high-mileage H22 longblock and ecu from a salvage yard, take the H22 and swap in the H23 crank, H23 rods, and H23 pistons, and turbo that.
You will have a fresh engine if you replace everything and build it right (machine work, etc.). You will also have about a 9.3:1 compression, so you could prob. run 10-11psi daily on that thing and not have to sweat it.
This is my dream for my car.....one day......

im going to go ahead w/ this project...hopefully the project wont go over 1000 bucks. i doubt it though cause i have to get or modify the exhuast system. i would have to purchase a vafc to activate the vtec engagement sooner. i want to keep the h23 stock rev limit. members that have done this can you give an estimate of how much you guys invested to have this done...i would really appreciated. thanks
